[Measurement of body temperature in daily practice].

Accurate measurement of body temperature is essential in routine medical practice. Development of new measurement methods, and awareness of mercury hazards are leading to the modification of our current practices. The range of body temperature in healthy individuals is 36.8 +/- 0.4 degrees C, but it may be influenced by many factors. Therefore, body temperature should be measured in a standardized fashion, preferably at rest, in the morning on waking. Febrile state is generally defined as a morning rectal temperature above 37.5 degrees C. Body temperature is largely dependent of the site of me

Agreement between three noninvasive temperature monitoring devices during spinal anaesthesia for caesarean delivery: a prospective observational study.

Hypothermia during obstetric spinal anaesthesia is a common and important problem, yet temperature monitoring is often not performed due to the lack of a suitable, cost-effective monitor. This study aimed to compare a noninvasive core temperature monitor with two readily available peripheral temperature monitors during obstetric spinal anaesthesia. We undertook a prospective observational study including elective and emergency caesarean deliveries, to determine the agreement between affordable reusable surface temperature monitors (Welch Allyn SureTemp® Plus oral thermometer and the Braun 3-in

Agreement of zero-heat-flux thermometry with the oesophageal and tympanic core temperature measurement in patient receiving major surgery.

To identify and prevent perioperative hypothermia, most surgical patients require a non-invasive, accurate, convenient, and continuous core temperature method, especially for patients undergoing major surgery. This study validated the precision and accuracy of a cutaneous zero-heat-flux thermometer and its performance in detecting intraoperative hypothermia. Adults undergoing major non-cardiac surgeries with general anaesthesia were enrolled in the study. Core temperatures were measured with a zero-heat-flux thermometer, infrared tympanic membrane thermometer, and oesophagal monitoring at 15-m

Agreement of zero-heat-flux thermometry compared with infrared tympanic temperature monitoring in adults undergoing major surgery.

The patient's body temperature significantly fluctuates, affected by factors, including anesthesia. The ideal temperature monitoring method that is suitable for perioperative application is of great significance for identifying hypothermia and malignant hyperthermia early, as well as for guiding intraoperative temperature protection. This study aims to compare the cutaneous zero-heat-flux (ZHF) thermometer application in general anesthesia using the infrared tympanic measurement as a reference. We conducted a prospective observational study and enrolled 130 patients scheduled for major surgery

Surgical extraction of traumatic orbital mercury.

Initial clinical observation of a 2-year-old boy whose right eyelid had been pierced by a glass thermometer 3 days earlier showed a scab-covered cicatrix and slight swelling in the eyelid. X-ray examination showed the broken thermometer tip, fine glass fragments, and mercury droplets beneath the eyelid and extending along the superior orbital margin. On surgical incision, glass fragments and the thermometer tip were found and extracted from the eyelid and orbital fatty tissue with forceps, and 70.3 mg of mercury droplets were readily removed from the same regions by suction via an elastic need

An unusual foreign body within the appendix.

Ingestion of foreign bodies consist a quite common problem in the pediatric age group. Usually most of them traverse the gastrointestinal tract without complications and only in rare cases they get trapped within the appendix. This case report describes the ingestion of the tip of a mercury thermometer by a six-year-old girl. An elective appendicectomy was performed in order to avoid further complications. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of the tip of a thermometer within the appendix.

Validity of Skin, Oral and Tympanic Temperatures During Exercise in the Heat: Effects of Wind and Sweat.

This experiment investigates the validity of six thermometers with different measuring sensors, operation and site of application, to estimate core temperature (Tc) in comparison to an ingestible thermometric sensor based on quartz crystal technology. Measurements were obtained before, during and after exercise in the heat, controlling the presence of air-cooling and skin sweating. Twelve well-trained men swallowed the ingestible thermometer 6 h before the trial. After pre-exercise resting measurements at 20 °C, subjects entered a heat chamber held at 40 °C. Exercise in the heat consisted of 6

Hypothermia: pathophysiology, clinical settings, and management.

Hypothermia, defined as a core temperature less than 35 degrees C, is frequently not recognized, in part because of the inadequacy of standard thermometers. This entity has multiple causes and unique pathophysiologic consequences that complicate diagnosis and treatment. Understanding of the physiology of thermoregulation is important in light of recent advances in therapy using core rewarming. Pathophysiology, etiology and management of the hypothermia syndrome are reviewed.

Determination of Internal Temperature by Measuring the Temperature of the Body Surface Due to Environmental Physical Factors-First Study of Fever Screening in the COVID Pandemic.

The SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic has shown that the use of a contact thermometer to verify the elevated body temperature of a suspected person carries a risk of spreading disease. The perfect solution seems to be the use of thermal imaging as a diagnostic method in fever evaluation. The aim of the research is to develop an algorithm for thermovision measurements in fever screening standards in the context of the impact of various weather conditions on the temperature of people entering the public institution. Each examined person had two thermal images of the face-AP and lateral projection. Using

Cross-sectional analysis of site- and ambient temperature-related variability in noncontact infrared thermometry among healthy Black African adults.

ObjectivesNoncontact infrared thermometers are widely used for rapid screening, particularly during infectious disease emergencies. Although noncontact use is time-efficient and helps maintain a safe distance, their readings may be influenced by the anatomical measurement site and ambient temperature, and evidence from Black African populations remains limited. This study examined the variability and agreement of noncontact infrared thermometer-derived surface temperature readings obtained from different anatomical sites under two controlled ambient temperature conditions in healthy Black Afri
