An exploration of district nurses' perception of occupational stress.

Many studies in nurse occupational stress have been carried out on high-dependency areas in general nursing, while community nursing has been neglected. District nurses, however, appear to be under increasing pressure, especially in the light of recent NHS reforms. This study aimed to explore district nurses' experiences in relation to the range and severity of stressful work-related events encountered in district nursing practice. The study was undertaken in a Yorkshire community healthcare NHS trust, with a convenience sample of 50 qualified district nurses, of which 38 successfully complete

[PASS units: mechanisms for delivering healthcare to underserved populations. The example of the Hôtel-Dieu PASS, Paris].

The 1998 French law on combating exclusion established PASS units (Permanences d'Accès aux Soins de Santé, or Healthcare Access Points) to guarantee access to healthcare for all, including people in precarious situations. PASS centers aim to address the social, economic, administrative, and linguistic barriers that prevent vulnerable populations from accessing the healthcare system. This article provides an overview of how PASS operate in France and describes the PASS at Hôtel-Dieu in Paris (Public Hospitals of Paris). This PASS offers patients a holistic approach that includes medical care, ps

The impact of communication on healthcare involvement for people living with motor neurone disease and their carers: A longitudinal qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Communication and cognitive impairments are known barriers to shared decision-making. Most people diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) will develop a motor speech impairment over the disease course. Some will develop cognitive, linguistic or behavioural disturbance. Despite this, the impact of communication and cognitive impairment on personal healthcare decision-making in MND is not well known. AIMS: This exploratory, longitudinal study aimed to capture the perspectives of people living with MND (plwMND) and family members on managing their healthcare with, or in anticipati

Clocking out: Nurses refusing to work in a time of pandemic.

Social science research has long critiqued how professional ideals of public service can ignore chronic problems within the healthcare industry, placing unfair burden on the "heroism" of individual workers. Yet, fewer studies investigate how healthcare professionals actively negotiate such demands for service, amidst increasing workplace pressures and risks. This paper studies Filipino nurses' response to a government policy that banned them from working overseas in order to channel their labor to local hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on 51 in-depth interviews, we argue that nurs
