In the pursuit of terminal tin chalcogenides, heteroleptic stannylenes bearing terphenyl- and hexamethyldisilazide ligands were reacted with carbodiimides to yield the respective guanidinato complexes. Further supported by quantum chemical calculations, this revealed that the iso-propyl-substituted derivative provides the maximum steric protection achievable. Although the first metalloid tin cluster was discovered by Wiberg in 1999, the number of isolated and characterized compounds is still low. Acyloxymethyl radicals were generated from the corresponding iodomethyl esters and successfully underwent addition to the CN bond of N-Ts, N-PMP, and N-Dpp imines by the action of dimethylzinc or triethylborane. Ethyl acetate, toluene, and benzene as well as dichloromethane were suitable solvents. The utility of acyloxymethyl radicals as a hydroxymethyl anion equivalent was highlighted by the facile hydrolysis of the acyloxy moiety of the adducts to give the corresponding amino alcohol derivatives in good to high yield.

TiN-Ag nanocomposite was synthesized by dc arc-plasma method. Microstructures of TiN-Ag nanocomposite were carefully characterized by powder X-ray diffraction method and transmission electron microscopy, and nano-morphologies by three-dimensional electron tomography. It was found that the surface of nanocrystalline TiN matrix was densely covered by finely dispersed Ag nanoparticles, and it was found that they were physically attached but not chemically bonded from their orientation relationships.

Sn-protoporphyrin is a potent competitive inhibitor of heme oxygenase, can suppress neonatal and other forms of hyperbilirubinemia in laboratory animals, and represents a potential new approach to the treatment of neonatal jaundice in humans. In order to study the disposition of Sn-protoporphyrin in vivo we have developed a sensitive fluorometric method for the quantitation of this metalloporphyrin in biological samples. The method is sensitive to concentrations as low as 0.01 nmol/ml, and is specific for Sn-protoporphyrin even in the presence of other porphyrins such as protoporphyrin.
