Metal tooth-like surgical templates for tooth autotransplantation in adolescents.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to suggest a way to fabricate surgical templates to assist the surgeon in preparing the recipient socket when performing premolar autotransplantation. METHODS: Premolars used previously for extractions of periodontal ligament (PDL) fibroblasts were used in this study as archetype of models for tooth transplantation. Eighty-four mandibular and maxillary first and second extracted premolars were reviewed. All teeth were extracted for orthodontic reasons. From these teeth, eight teeth were selected to serve as archetype of models in which all the other teeth

Healing of Alveolar Sockets Treated with Concentrated Growth Factors: A Split-Mouth Study.

Background: tooth extraction is a common procedure in oral surgery. The socket healing process involves hard and soft tissues and is characterized by intense remodeling, which may determine consistent dimension changes. Several autologous platelet concentrates (APCs) proved to be effective for enhancing alveolar socket healing after tooth extraction, accelerating socket closure and countering alveolar bone resorption. Concentrated growth factors (CGFs) are one of the most recently developed APCs, and their effect on the socket healing process still needs to be confirmed. Aim: The aim of the pr

Socket preservation and its impact on final prosthetic outcomes.

Post-extraction alveolar bone resorption remains a significant clinical challenge, often compromising implant placement and aesthetic outcomes. Hence, fifty patients undergoing tooth extraction were equally divided into two groups: one group received socket preservation using bone grafts and membranes, while the other underwent conventional healing. Clinical, radiographic, and prosthetic parameters were evaluated over an 18-month period. The socket preservation group demonstrated fewer post-operative complications, along with significantly improved aesthetic scores and higher patient satisfact

Immediate implant placement in extraction sockets with buccal bone dehiscence: A case study.

BACKGROUND: Immediate implant placement (IIP) has been associated with a higher risk of esthetic complications and particularly buccal mucos … n can lead to more visible aesthetic issues, especially gum recession. This is more common when the tooth socket is not intact or the gum tissue is thin. However, several techniques have shown good results even in these challenging situations. This study explores a method for implant placement right after tooth extraction in cases where there is bone missing o …

Clinical use of the resorbable bioscaffold poly lactic co-glycolic acid (PLGA) in post-extraction socket for maintaining the alveolar height: A prospective study.

BACKGROUND: A common sequel of tooth extraction is alveolar bone resorption. It makes the placement of dental implants difficult and creates an esthetic problem for the fabrication of conventional prostheses. Therefore, alveolar bone following tooth extraction should be preserved. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The present prospective study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of the resorbable bioscaffold poly lactic co-glycolic acid (PLGA) in maintaining the alveolar height in post-extraction socket. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 20 patients were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria and were

Feasibility and Preliminary Efficacy of α-Calcium Sulfate Hemihydrate in Socket Preservation: Protocol for a Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Tooth extraction procedures often lead to bone resorption, which can have adverse effects on the dimensions of the alveolar ridge. Research has shown that socket preservation techniques using bone graft substitutes can effectively minimize early bone loss in such cases. α-calcium sulfate hemihydrate (α-CSH) has garnered significant attention as a potential bone graft material due to its favorable properties, including osteoconductivity, angiogenic potential, and biocompatibility. Considering these facts, we developed a preliminary protocol for applying α-CSH in addressing alveolar
