BACKGROUND: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and transitional carcinoma with squamous differentiation (SCC/TCC) are rare in western countries. Chronic inflammation and irritation of the urothelium are common risk factors for the development of SCC and TCC/SCC. Tumour biology of squamous cell cancer and precancerous squamous lesions is different from transitional cell cancer (TCC). Recent advances in molecular analysis of benign and malignant squamous cell lesions indicate that they are closely associated and might lead to improved bladder cancer subclassification in the future.

Eosinophilic gastroenteritis with eosinophilic infiltration of the urinary bladder wall is rare in children. We describe the CT findings of eosinophilic gastroenteritis accompanied by bladder involvement in an 11-year-old boy. A neutered female chow chow aged six years and five months was evaluated for dysuria. An initial diagnosis of bladder distension and atony was made following physical, ultrasonographic and radiographic examinations. The problems did not resolve with medical management and exploratory surgery revealed a large bladder diverticulum. This report describes the radiographic findings and surgical repair of the acquired bladder diverticulum. The literature available on this condition is also reviewed.

We report an unusual case of invasive mole metastasized to the urinary bladder. The patient presented with hematuria one month after evacuation of a molar pregnancy. The serum chorionic gonadotropin levels regressed spontaneously following transurethral cystoscopic resection of the tumour. Metastasis of an invasive mole to the urinary bladder has not been previously reported.

Many patients with urinary incontinence due to neurogenic sphincter insufficiency are treated by intermittent catheterization combined with drug therapy. We report a case of metastasis of a hepatocellular carcinoma to the bladder. Clinically the tumor was suspected to be a primary bladder tumor with subsequent metastasis to the liver. However, the pathological diagnosis yielded different results. The tumor cells resembled liver cells and sometimes bile production was even observed. No therapy was available and the patient died of cachexia 6 months later.
