A 31-year-old Caucasian woman presented with a 20-year history of presumed atopic dermatitis. She complained of severe pruritus and the presence of extensive patches of erythema and scale. Her previous treatments included: multiple topical corticosteroids, tacrolimus 0.1% ointment, pimecrolimus 1% cream, and cyclosporine with no improvement of her symptoms. OBJECTS: During the last decades there have been various attempts to define the characteristics of white matter inflammatory diseases. Most of the authors concerned agree in considering Schilder's myelinoclastic diffuse sclerosis (SD), Devic's neuromyelitis optica (NMO) and Balo's concentric sclerosis to be variants of typical multiple sclerosis (MS). UNLABELLED: The indocyanine green angiographic appearance in the Multiple Evanescent White Dot Syndrome is described in a young female patient, presenting with bilateral involvement. Multiple hypofluorescent dots in the posterior pole of the right eye, and a hypofluorescent peripapillary ring in both eyes were the characteristic findings at initial examination. BACKGROUND: Multiple evanescent white dot syndrome is a benign, rare, acute, usually unilateral disease that primarily affects young women. Retinal findings can include white dots at the level of the retinal pigment epithelium, optic nerve head swelling, an enlarged blind spot, and paracentral and central scotomas. Visual loss can be significant early on, but almost always returns to normal. The cause is unknown.

The lethal white foal syndrome (congenital intestinal aganglionosis) was diagnosed by history, clinical signs and pathological findings in a female foal, born in March 1992, that was an offspring of two overo-spotted paint horses. The syndrome is a congenital innervation defect of the gastrointestinal tract. A literature review of this condition, relatively unknown in Germany, is given.

Three field cases of ill-thrift, hepatic lipodystrophy and low tissue levels of vitamin B12 in young angora cross goats are reported. The cases meet the criteria for the diagnosis of white liver disease (WLD) described for sheep. The hypothesis that WLD is a metabolic consequence of cobalt/vit B12 deficiency in sheep and goats on a diet rich in propionate is developed, together with possible reasons for its occurrence in these species but not in cattle or red deer.

The computed tomogram of a 6 month old girl with familial megalencephaly showed widespread attenuation throughout the white matter. She continued to be developmentally and neurologically normal. Her scan at age 3 years was normal apart from the megalencephaly. A tentative explanation for this unusual series of events is offered.
