We describe a patient with angiosarcoma of the scalp arising in an area of radiodermatitis caused by X-ray epilation therapy for scalp ringworm as a child. Radiotherapy has been well documented as a causative factor in the formation of cutaneous malignancies, most notably basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma, but only rarely angiosarcoma. This is now the first reported case of angiosarcoma arising after X-ray epilation therapy for scalp ringworm, and we postulate a causative link between the two events.

Data on treatment of 13 cases of thymoma of the mediastinum are considered. Differential diagnosis between benign and malignant thymoma may be obtained in some patients by means of clinical, X-ray and laboratory examination. Thymomas should be removed lest they should become malignant and be aggravated by myasthenic and mediastinal syndrome. Removal of malignant thymoma should be followed by X-ray therapy.

Six examples demonstrate the reactivation of pulmonary tuberculosis in elderly patients. In 3 cases the tuberculosis became reactivated 25, 47 and 51 years respectively after the initial diagnosis. In aged patients with pulmonary symptoms and abnormal x-ray findings, the presence of reactivated tuberculosis should always be considered. Sometimes steroid or x-ray therapy for other disease may be the reactivating factor.

A poorly differentiated squamous cell oesophageal carcinoma was diagnosed in a patient after an 11 month history of difficulty in swallowing. The condition was inoperable according to clinical and X-ray contrast examinations. Radiation therapy with three courses of chemotherapy was carried out, but no amelioration was obtained. Ukrain therapy (course of 46 ampoules) was undertaken; this changed the situation entirely: all the subjective problems disappeared and no residual cancer was seen on the X-rays. Complete remission is seen nearly four years after Ukrain therapy.

Serial bone scans, x-rays and records of bone pain were reviewed in order to determine the relative contributions of these parameters in the assessment of response of bone metastases to treatment. Studies were done to determine whether hyperthermia alone, or in simultaneous combination with X-rays, can induce malignant transformation in golden hamster embryo cells.
