As a keystone species in alpine ecosystems, the Tibetan fox (Vulpes ferrilata) plays an important role in maintaining ecological processes on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Understanding its behavioral structure, activity rhythm, and responses to road-related human disturbance is essential for effective conservation and management. This study was conducted in the Tangbei Area of Sanjiangyuan National Park from May to December 2024 using infrared camera trapping. In total, 1166 effective camera-trap days yielded 748 independent photographs, 340 video clips, and 217 valid behavioral records. An etho

Fluoride (F¯) is a global geogenic contaminant in groundwater, occurring at elevated concentrations across almost every continent. While optimal fluoride intake benefits dental health, levels exceeding the WHO safe limit (1.5 mg L-1) can cause dental fluorosis and even severe skeletal fluorosis, with drinking water being the primary exposure pathway. Understanding the global occurrence and geochemistry of fluoride in groundwater is essential for minimizing associated health risks. Therefore, this study reviews the incidence, distribution, mobilization mechanisms of fluoride in groundwater, and

Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from industrial point sources are one of the main driving factors contributing to uncertainties in CO2 emissions from fossil fuels. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the feasibility of a portable Raman Lidar system that is cost-effective and employs simple optics for the monitoring of anthropogenic CO2 emissions from stack sources. Two outdoor field campaigns were conducted to investigate emissions from waste combustor stacks in South Korea. In Haman, we examined the CO2 enhancement caused by emissions and estimated the CO2 instant emission flux over a

Phenolic compounds are an extensive group of natural and anthropogenic organic substances of the aromatic series containing one or more hydroxyl groups. The main sources of phenols entering the environment are waste from metallurgy and coke plants, enterprises of the leather, furniture, and pulp and paper industries, as well as wastewater from the production of phenol-formaldehyde resins, adhesives, plastics, and pesticides. Among this group of compounds, phenol is the most common environmental pollutant. One of the cheapest and most effective ways to combat phenol pollution is biological puri

In the summer of 2019, field measurements of ozone (O3) and its precursors[volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NOx)] were carried out at an urban site in Ji'nan. We found that the daily maximum 8-hour averages φ(O3) were (103.0±14.5)×10-9. The average φ(NOx) and φ(VOCs), which are ozone precursors, were (16.7±11.3)×10-9and (22.4±9.4)×10-9, respectively. The ·OH reactivity of VOCs was determined (9.6±3.8) s-1. Ji'nan suffered from serious O3 pollution. An observation-constrained chemical box model was deployed to evaluate in situ photochemical O3 production, which indicated t

Marine biotoxins are naturally existing chemicals produced by toxic algae and can accumulate in marine biota. When consumed with seafood, these phycotoxins can cause human intoxication with symptoms varying from barely-noticed illness to death depending on the type of toxin and its concentration. Recently, the occurrence of marine biotoxins has been given special attention in the Mediterranean as it increased in frequency and severity due to anthropogenic pressures and climate change. Up to our knowledge, no previous study reported the presence of lipophilic toxins (LTs) and cyclic imines (CIs

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are ubiquitous environmental contaminants with severe ecological toxicity, released via both biogenic and anthropogenic pathways. Ultra-sensitive analytical methods for the quantitative monitoring of trace PAHs in real samples are urgently required, yet preconcentration is indispensable for accurate analysis due to complex environmental matrices and ultra-trace PAH levels. Herein, a quinoxaline-based conjugated microporous polymer(CMP) with a fluffy rod-groove structure and large π-conjugated plane (CMP-1) was synthesized via the Sonogashira-Hagihara cou

Air pollution poses a significant public health risk, as pollutants, emitted from both natural and anthropogenic sources, can penetrate deep into the respiratory system, leading to a wide range of respiratory diseases. While numerous studies have examined the role of meteorological factors in modulating air quality, limited research has focussed specifically on their effectiveness in regions characterized by intensive mineral extraction activities, particularly coal mining zones where emission loads remain persistently high. In this context, the concentration levels of PM10, PM2.5, SO2, and NO

Ensuring safe drinking water remains a major public health and sustainability challenge in rapidly urbanizing, groundwater-stressed and semi-arid regions. Conventional monitoring lacks statistical integration and holistic assessment. This study evaluated 167 drinking water samples from surface (PHED supply from Bisalpur Dam) and groundwater sources, assessing parameters including physicochemical, heavy metals, bacteriological indicators and antibiotic resistance profiles of 141 E. coli-like isolates. To enhance interpretability and risk stratification, an advanced multivariate statistical fram

Global climate change-induced ocean warming and acidification have complex reverberations on the physiological functioning of marine ectotherms. The Sundarbans estuarine system has been under threat for the past few decades due to natural and anthropogenic disturbances. In recent years, petroleum products' transportation and their usage have increased manifold, which causes accidental oil spills. The mud crab (Scylla serrata) is one of the most commercially exploited species in the Sundarbans. The key objective of this study was to delineate whether rearing under global environmental drivers (

Background: Previous research has highlighted the importance of major atmospheric aerosols such as sulfate, through its precursor sulfur dioxide (SO2), black carbon (BC), and organic carbon (OC), and their effect on global climate regimes, specifically on their impact on particulate matter measuring ≤ 2.5 μm (PM2.5). Policy regulations have attempted to address the change in these major active aerosols and their impact on PM2.5, which would presumably have a cascading effect toward the change of health risks. Objective: This study aimed to determine how the change in the global emissions of an

Fecal contamination from natural and anthropogenic sources poses significant threats to saltwater estuaries, particularly after storms or heavy rainfall. Monitoring fecal contamination is essential for protecting these vulnerable ecosystems having important ecological and economic values. In this study, we investigated the abundance, sources, and potential causes of fecal contamination at three marine and seven freshwater stations across Vaughn Bay (WA, USA), a shellfish growing district, during base- and storm-flow events. Additionally, we evaluated the performance of fecal indicator bacteria

Filter-feeding organisms are often keystone species with a major influence on the dynamics of aquatic ecosystems. Studies of filtering rates in such taxa are therefore vital in order to understand ecosystem functioning and the impact of natural and anthropogenic stressors such as parasites, climate warming and invasive species. Brine shrimps Artemia spp. are the dominant grazers in hypersaline systems and are a good example of such keystone taxa. Hypersaline ecosystems are relatively simplified environments compared with much more complex freshwater and marine ecosystems, making them suitable

Machine learning algorithms were used to analyze and predict the seasonal perchlorate content in groundwater of the Arjunanadi River Basin (ARB) in South India and associated health risks. The CaMgCl type of majority samples reflected secondary salinity from prolonged rock-water interaction and prominent anthropogenic influence. Perchlorate concentrations ranged from 0.001 to 0.21 ppm. In post-monsoon season (POMS) 2023, 24.4% of the groundwater samples were classified as at risk and 8.5% as high risk, with corresponding area mapped to an extent of 280 and 80 km2, respectively. Microplastics (MPs) are ubiquitous emerging pollutants in aquatic environments, however, most studies have focused on large MPs (≥50 μm), potentially underestimating total contamination and associated ecological risk. This study quantified MPs ranging from 1 μm to 5 mm in the surface water of Tolo Harbour, a semi-enclosed urban estuary in Hong Kong, using Nile Red staining combined with stereomicroscopy for large MPs (≥50 μm) and flow cytometry for small MPs (1-50 μm). Average large and small MPs abundances ranged from 18 to 105 particles L-1 and 30,713-447,943 particles L-1, respectively. Sma
