The patient was male, 50s. He visited his local doctor with complaints of hematochezia and hematuria. He underwent colonoscopy, which revealed a circumferential lesion in the sigmoid colon, and he was referred to our department for further examination and treatment. For colon cancer complicated by iliopsoas abscess, it is unclear whether surgery should be performed prior to abscess drainage. We were able to perform laparoscopic sigmoid resection safely after first draining the abscess. We believed it would be beneficial to avoid surgery in the presence of abscess and inflammation, and the minimally invasive operation was performed after improvements of the patient's general status and inflammation.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: To explore the value of hysteroscope and laparoscope in removing an incarcerated or ectopic intrauterine device (IUD).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A 33-year-old woman was admitted to the present hospital on May 22nd, 2013. An incarcerated IUD was proven by ultrasonography. An IUD had been implanted in October 2011. Clinical case report of an incarcerated IUD in the sigmoid colon.
RESULTS: An IUD was successfully removed with the assistance of hysteroscope and laparoscope.
CONCLUSION: Ultrasonography should be performed in the follow-up of the patients after IUD implantation. Ect

Micropapillary carcinoma is known to be associated with a poor prognosis and high propensity for lymphovascular invasion and lymph node metastasis. Case reports on colorectal micropapillary carcinoma are relatively rare. We report here a 26-year-old woman who had sigmoid colon cancer with a micropapillary component. We made the diagnosis of pulmonary lymphangitic carcinomatosis but could not identify the primary lesion. We gave her chemotherapy as an occult primary cancer. But her respiratory condition did not improve and she died of respiratory failure. Autopsy was performed after her death.

A 51-year-old man demonstrated a positive finding for a fecal occult blood test during a screening examination. Total colonoscopy was therefore performed, and a semi-pedunculated polyp was detected in the sigmoid colon. Isolated metastatic tumor of the spleen is rare and usually encompass the presence of neoplasmatic dissemination. The most frequent location of metastasis is right lobe of the liver, however solitaire secondary tumor to distant organ such as brain, lung, bone marrow or other might be discovered. This report refers to the 15th case of isolated intrasplenic metastasis from colon and rectal cancer. Splenectomy is a method of choice therefore may be justified in presence of isolated metastatic disease, because of low complication rate, providing potential long-term survival.

We depict the case of an 80-year-old female patient who presented to us with a history of protruding mass per anum. Sigmoidoscopy revealed a large globular pedunculated polyp at 22 cm from the anal verge resulting in a sigmoidorectal intussusception. Endoscopic polypectomy was not technically possible due to the large size of the polyp. At the time of prolapse the polyp was tied at its pedicle with thread and resected surgically. The patient is asymptomatic on follow-up.

In this paper we describe an endoscopic appearance of the sigmoid colon characterised by mucosal swelling, erythema and haemorrhage strictly localised to the crescentic mucosal folds. In a 5-year period these changes were seen in 34 (1.42%) of 2380 colonoscopies and fibreoptic sigmoidoscopies. The majority of patients were middle-aged or elderly. The investigation of architectonics of the vessels of the left half of the colon was performed in 52 corpses. The authors think that in carcinoma of the upper third of the sigmoid colon it is necessary to fulfil the left-side hemicolectomy, in injured median and lower thirds a resection of the sigmoid colon may be considered to be radical. Remote results of the operative treatment of 91 patients with carcinoma of the sigmoid colon confirm the authors' recommendations.

We report a retrospective study of 107 cases of carcinoma of the sigmoid colon and upper rectum treated for primary cure at the University of California at Los Angeles Hospital between 1955 and 1970.
