OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the Methods , complication and operative skill in transconjunctival surgical cryoextraction of intraconal orbital cavernous hemangioma.
METHODS: Among the 41 patients diagnosed as orbital cavernous hemangioma preoperatively, 36 suitable for the condition were treated with the operation. The operation time was recorded, and the complications were observed during and after the operation.

The retinopathy of prematurity is a proliferative disease of the retinal blood vessels, occurring in the prematurely born babies. As the life support conditions for the prematurely born babies have improved, the retinopathy of prematurity has became a problem, both for the neonatologists and the ophthalmologists. This paper discusses the pathogeny, the risk factors, the classification criteria and especially the methods for the screening and therapy of this disease.

A 48-year-old man presented with typical features of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, such as soft and hyperextensible skin, subcutaneous nodules, clubbed feet, and a mild degree of pigeon chest. In addition, his past history revealed congenital dislocation of the hip joint, retinal detachment, and repeated episodes of congestive heart failure due to severe mitral regurgitation and atrial fibrillation. We report on improvements in cryoprobe design and techniques of cryoablation as a minimally invasive alternative to open surgery for the treatment of benign breast tumors. In the study, which was conducted in 12 centers, 124 lesions in 102 patients were monitored for a period of 12 months after cryoablation. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of axonal repair technique for treatment of peripheral nerve injury clinically.
METHODS: In 1998, the authors applied axonal repair technique to treat peripheral nerve injuries in 12 patients with 13 nerves. PURPOSE: To investigate the vitreous findings in patients with cicatricial retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) who underwent retinal cryopexy and/or photocoagulation during the acute phase of the disease.

In an effort to minimize surgical and visual morbidity of cryotherapy for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), 18 eyes of 13 patients with 3 to 7 clock hours of stage 3 ROP with "plus" disease were treated by cryotherapy applications limited to the avascular retina adjacent to the areas of stage 3 disease. In 17 of 18 eyes, this limited use of cryotherapy was sufficient to cause regression of ROP without further treatments. After at least 3 months follow-up, ROP outcome showed a normal macular appearance in 16 eyes; two eyes developed macular dragging; no retinal detachments occurred.

Between 1981 and 1986, 219 patients with cervical dysplasia were treated at the Kyushu University Hospital. All patients were diagnosed by cervical smear, colposcopy, and cervical biopsy and/or endo cervical curettage. They have been followed for more than one year (average 37 months). The effects of graded cyclocryotherapy were studied using pneumatonometry, fluorophotometry, and light and electron microscopy.
