OBJECTIVE: To study the clinical characteristics, electroencephalographic and computerized axial tomography profile in Saudi children with cerebral palsy who suffer epilepsy in a university referral center.
METHODS: A total of 113 patients with cerebral palsy and epilepsy was seen (67 boys, 46 girls) with an over all mean age 5.3 years (range.2-12 years) during the study period (January 1998 - December 1999). A door-to-door survey was conducted in 18 villages in Mali with a total of 5,243 inhabitants classified according to the endemicity of onchocerciasis. Each epileptic was matched with two controls. Sixteen individuals presenting with seizures in a rural village of Peru were screened for antibodies to Taenia solium, and those willing to attend were offered a complete neurological work-up including EEG and cerebral CT scan in a reference center. OBJECTIVE: Photosensitive epilepsy is joined to headache. Aim of the present study was the follow up of children suffering from headaches in order to verify if headache can be the only symptom of epileptic photosensitivity.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Thirteen children affected by headache were examined. They were screened on the basis of photosensitivity showed on the EEG. During following 6 patients had seizures.

We report the case of a 6-year-2-month-old female affected by trisomy 12p syndrome. Seizures were typical myoclonic absences from both the clinical and EEG points of view. Our patient and other sporadic reports in the literature seem to support the hypothesis that, at least in some cases, myoclonic absences can be a direct or indirect effect of a chromosomopathy.

Benign epilepsy of childhood with centrotemporal spikes (BECT) is the most common partial epilepsy syndrome in the pediatric age group, with an onset between age 3 and 13 years. Four patients, diagnosed with refractory epilepsy, were treated with both continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) and antiepileptic medication (AEM) and showed > 50% reduction in seizures after 6 months-2 years follow-up. Two patients subsequently had AEM withdrawn and are seizure free and in one such patient, obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) has remained the only operative diagnosis. This dual approach to care provided a real advantage to the management of patients with the dual diagnoses of OSA and epilepsy, which was refractory to standard AEM therapy.
