PURPOSE: Epidermoid tumors are uncommon entities that usually occur intradurally in the cerebellopontine angle and parasellar cisterns. The few cases that have been reported to occur in the intraorbital location involve patients in the first four decades of life. We subdivide the calvarium into three zones, each with its special reconstructive requirements. Based on our experience with calvarial defects in 13 patients, we favor use of autogenous material, especially in the face of previous infection or a scarred recipient bed. Alloplasts give excellent forehead contour but alloplastic reconstruction should be delayed for 1 year after injury. Vascularized bone grafts maintain contour well. A case of intraosseous lipoma arising from the body of the sphenoid bone with intrasellar and suprasellar components is reported. This is the first report of this uncommon tumour occurring in an atypical intracranial site, producing the locally invasive and pressure effects of visual failure and hypopituitarism. The diagnosis was based on computed tomographic (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging with histological confirmation following frontal craniotomy.

In a 37 year old woman, complaining of right sided rhinorrhea, frontal headache, sneezing and tearing of the eye, fibrous dysplasia was diagnosed based on a radiological "ground glass lesion" of the right maxillo-orbito-ethmoidal area and a hot spot on total body bone scintigraphy. The lesion was resected using a lateral rhinotomy approach with good functional and esthetic result.

Here, we describe a case of dermoid cyst located in the right frontal lobe, which showed repeated changes on CT. An 11-year-old girl was referred to our hospital to treat a brain neoplasm. The difference between periosteal and subperiosteal application of hydroxylapatite (HA) in aesthetic forehead augmentation in the subimplant bed was investigated in six adult Göttingen minipigs. These results were then transferred to clinical application. One exemplary case is described. We found that epiperiosteal augmentation with hydroxylapatite should be performed only if shape and location are stable. Subperiosteal augmentation with hydroxylapatite must be judged critically since HA particles migrate into the subimplant bone.

The term of 'plagiocephaly' coined by Virchow in 1851, that literally means 'cranial asymmetry' has been applied to dysmorhic skulls that look similar but which sometimes have a different etiology. The authors report a new clinical classification of plagiocephaly in order to simplify the categorization of this disease. A series of 100 patients with plagiocephaly were observed and treated. A clinical investigation of these cases, some considerations about the techniques used, the analysis of the results and a long-term follow-up complete the study reported.
