The association of COVID-19 with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma: a Mendelian randomization study.

With the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), there has been an increasing focus on exploring the relationship between SARS-CoV-2 infection and tumors. However, there is no consensus on the association between COVID-19 and lymphoma. In this study, genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary data sets for COVID-19 and lymphoma were obtained from the OPEN GWAS website. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were selected as genetic instrument variants for fulling P < 5 × 10-8 and linkage disequilibrium [LD] r2 < 0.001. Both palindromic and outlier SNPs were removed. Cochran's Q test

Potential Causal Association between Depression and Oral Diseases: A Mendelian Randomization Study.

BACKGROUND: Globally, oral diseases are common, pose an economic burden, and significantly decline the quality of life of affected individuals. Recently, researchers have substantially highlighted the effect of depression on oral disease incidence and development. In this study, we elucidated the correlation between depression and oral diseases. METHODS: Using two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR), the association between depression and the risk of 17 oral diseases was evaluated. Three methods were used to perform MR analysis: the inverse variance-weighted, weighted median, and MR-Egger met

No causal association between plasma homocysteine levels and atrial fibrillation: A Mendelian randomization study.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Although several studies have shown an association between plasma homocysteine (Hcy) levels and atrial fibrillation (AF), the causality remains unclear. We undertook a Mendelian randomization (MR) study to investigate the causal association between Hcy and AF. METHODS AND RESULTS: Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) which genome-wide significantly associated with plasma Hcy levels were obtained from a genome-wide meta-analysis (N = 44 147). MR analyses including the random-effect inverse variance-weighted (IVW) meta-analysis, weighted median analysis, and MR-Egger regr

Rescue of progeria in trichothiodystrophy by homozygous lethal Xpd alleles.

Although compound heterozygosity, or the presence of two different mutant alleles of the same gene, is common in human recessive disease, its potential to impact disease outcome has not been well documented. This is most likely because of the inherent difficulty in distinguishing specific biallelic effects from differences in environment or genetic background. We addressed the potential of different recessive alleles to contribute to the enigmatic pleiotropy associated with XPD recessive disorders in compound heterozygous mouse models. Alterations in this essential helicase, with functions in

Evaluating the Causal Relationship between Personality and Parkinson's Disease.

INTRODUCTION: Understanding personality is crucial for monitoring progression and evaluating treatments for Parkinson's disease (PD). However, the causal relationships between personality and PD have yet to be elucidated. METHODS: Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses were conducted to determine the bidirectional causal relationships between the Big Five personality traits (neuroticism, extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness) and PD. The inverse variance-weighted (IVW) method was used as the primary analysis, with weighted median, MR-Egger, and MR-PRESSO implemented as s

[Genetic background of dyslexia and dysgraphy in children].

The review is devoted to one of the current problems of pediatric neurology - reading and writing disorders in children as part of a partial developmental disorder. With the development of neuroscience, the paradigm of «brain damage» in the understanding of a number of pathological conditions was replaced by the concept of «evolutionary neurology». The dominance of the ontogenetic approach caused the appearance of a new section in ICD-11 - «Neurodevelopmental disorders». Twenty-one genes associated with the acquisition of reading and writing skills have been identified. Modern studies demonstr
