BACKGROUND: Older adults who sustain hip fractures usually have multiple coexisting medical problems that may impact their treatment and outcomes. The geriatric fracture center (GFC) provides a model of care that standardizes treatment and optimizes outcomes. The purpose of this study is to determine whether GFC patients with a higher burden of comorbidity or specific comorbidities are at risk for worsened perioperative outcomes, such as increased time to surgery (TTS), postoperative complications, and longer length of hospital stay (LOS).

Carcinomas of the tongue constitute approximately 5% to 10% of oral carcinomas. Rehabilitation of these patients postsurgery is challenging because the motor control of the tongue is lost and postsurgical scarring reduces the vestibular depth needed to support and retain a denture. Implant-supported overdentures are a viable option to rehabilitate such patients. The restoration provides enhanced function and wearer comfort.

Growing evidences suggest that the abnormality of hippocampal volume may occur in the process of depression. In this longitudinal study, we calculated the hippocampal volume of 14 remitted geriatric depressed (RGD) patients and 19 healthy participants at baseline and follow-up. We found significant improvement of performance in Trail Making Test-A (P=0.038) and Test-B (P=0.032), and the right hippocampal volume increased mildly in RGD. STUDY AIM: To study the yield of routine EEG in geriatric patients.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We examined standard EEG recordings of 701 patients aged 84.6±6.4 years. These were performed over a 15 month-period in a geriatric hospital. The majority of patients were hospitalized and 46.5% suffered from multiple medical problems.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of the present study was to determine the factors affecting morbidity and mortality in geriatric patients undergoing abdominal surgery.
METHODS: Ninety-two patients who had undergone acute abdominal surgery at >65 years of age were evaluated in terms of surgical indications, morbidity and mortality rates and the factors affecting morbidity and mortality. Forty-eight patients (52.2%) were males and 44 (47.8%) were females. The mean age was 73.32±6.37 (65-92) years.

This report presents the use of a dental implant with an anti-rotational attachment for the retention of a thumb prosthesis. A retention system was manufactured with an attachment (UCLA) screwed into the implant with a two-bar system that was cast in metallic silver palladium. A substructure made from heat-cured acrylic resin was joined to the retention system by clips to join the thumb to the finger (bar clip) in the cast with implant rejoinder.
