INTRODUCTION: Lateral clavicle fractures often need to be stabilized by a plate osteosynthesis and due to the acting high forces a cut-out of the screws of the lateral fracture fragment can occur. New plates enable to place anterior screws in addition to the screws placed from the top of the clavicle. This experimental in-vitro study will determine whether they have a substantial biomechanical effect.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In synthetic bones, lateral clavicle fractures were created and stabilized in 4 different groups: In Group A, a lateral clavicle plate was fixed with 3 screws in the later

Suicide attempts (SA) and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) are critical public health concerns that frequently co-occur in depressed adolescents. However, the neurological mechanisms underlying these behaviors remain poorly understood. This study aimed to identify alterations in brain activity and examine the associations between these changes and clinical symptom severity in depressed adolescents with SA and NSSI. A total of 82 depressed adolescents with NSSI were divided into two groups: those with both SA and NSSI (SA + NSSI, n = 46) and those with NSSI only (n = 36). Static amplitude of low

Rotational malalignment after intramedullary nailing of femoral fractures is common, and symptoms occur when malrotation reaches 15 degrees . Intraoperative measurement of rotation remains difficult, and multiple techniques have been described to address this. Regardless of the method used, rotational toggling may occur between the interlocking screws and the screw holes. We hypothesized that a clinically significant amount of rotation may occur with standard statically locked intramedullary nails. Mid-shaft diaphyseal fractures were created in 24 cadaveric femurs. Specimens were divided into

The effects of the cyclooxygenase inhibitor, indomethacin, and the leukotriene receptor antagonist, FPL 57231, on changes in dynamic lung compliance and pulmonary resistance associated with a 1-h infusion of live group B streptococci were evaluated in mechanically ventilated piglets. To define mediators of early changes in lung function, animals were given an infusion of either FPL 57231 or indomethacin beginning 15 min after the infusion of group B streptococci was begun. These groups were compared to an untreated group who received only group B streptococci. Within 15 min of starting the bac

The research objective of our group is to improve the intrapartum detection of cardiotocography tracings associated with an increased risk of developing fetal acidosis and subsequent hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). The detection methods that we aim to develop must be sensitive to abnormal tracings without causing excessive unnecessary interventions. Past studies showed that the dynamic response of fetal heart rate (FHR) to uterine pressure (UP) during the intrapartum could be modelled using linear systems. In this study, we examined the assumption of linearity by comparing the performan

Fast and reversible dynamic covalent C═C/C═N exchange takes place without catalyst in nonpolar solvents between barbiturate-derived Knoevenagel (Kn) compounds and imines. A detailed study of the reaction indicates that it proceeds by an associative organo-metathesis mechanism involving the formation of a four-membered ring azetidine intermediate by addition of the imine C═N group to the C═C bond of the Kn compound. This intermediate could be generated cleanly and stabilized at low temperature by condensation of the o,p-dinitrophenyl Kn derivative with the cyclic imine 1-azacyclohexene. It was

Dynamic functional connectivity (FC) analyses have provided ample information on the disturbances of global functional brain organization in patients with schizophrenia. However, our understanding about the dynamics of local FC in never-treated first episode schizophrenia (FES) patients is still rudimentary. Dynamic Regional Phase Synchrony (DRePS), a newly developed dynamic local FC analysis method that could quantify the instantaneous phase synchronization in local spatial scale, overcomes the limitations of commonly used sliding-window methods. The current study performed a comprehensive ex

The influence of a 12-week-proprioceptive training on functional ankle stability was investigated in young speed skaters. Twenty-eight speed skaters were randomly divided into an intervention (n = 14) and into a control group (n = 14). A 15-min circle training was performed 5 times per week over a 12-week period. Measurements were taken prior to the training, after 6 and 12 weeks of training. Kinaesthesia was evaluated with the Isomed2000 in all movements of the ankle joint. Dynamic balance was tested with the Biodex Stability System at the stable level 8 and at the unstable level 2, measuring
