We have observed a high frequency of chronic Candida albicans infection and of allergic sensitization to candida among patients with normocalcemic latent tetany (LT). American tegumentary leishmaniasis presents as two major clinical forms: localized cutaneous leishmaniasis (LCL) and mucocutaneous leishmaniasis (MCL). BACKGROUND: In an outpatient population, a high frequency of positive skin prick test responses to dog dander was found in the absence of detectable IgE to dog dander in the RAST. The majority of these patients were sensitized to house dust mites (Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus) and had no obvious dog-related allergic symptoms. In a study on 129 patients with penile condylomata acuminata we recognised an incidence of 32% penile yeast affection. Candida was found in 54%, Torulopsis in 30% and Rhodotorula in 17% of all cases. The high rate of yeasts not belonging to the candida species is remarkable. There was no correlation between our test results regarding the cell-mediated immunity against candida albicans and the local yeast infection.

69 patients with alopecia areata of different degree and duration were tested for cell-mediated immunity (DCH) by means of the Multitest system and other recall antigens. Our findings revealed a normergic status in most of the patients. In comparison with healthy controls, however, these patients showed decreased cell-mediated immunity, which was proved by a diminished score and a reduced number of positive reactions. There was no correlation between an anergic or hypoergic status on the one hand, and the degree or duration of the disease on the other.
