Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is comorbid with a range of other disorders, including anxiety disorders. The aim was to examine different explanations for the covariation of these symptom domains in children according to the framework provided by (Lilienfeld, S. O. Comorbidity between and within childhood externalizing and internalizing disorders: Reflections and directions. Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology, 2003). The covariation of ADHD symptoms and anxiety symptoms were examined over a 12-month period in a community sample of 499 children aged 8-13; 91% were retained at

Chronic pain is common after a traumatic brain injury. Cognitive impairment post injury may be a consequence of the brain injury alone, or in combination with pain, clinical depression, and psychological and emotional factors. We present a case of a severely cognitively impaired person post-traumatic brain injury, whose behavior included social withdrawal, irritability, and agitation around direct care--which was unresponsive to psychotropic intervention or care delivery strategies. The introduction of an opioid made a significant improvement in the cognition and quality of life of the individ

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to identify symptom-derived profiles among youth with disruptive mood and behavior disorders (DMBD) based on dimensional psychopathology and to examine whether these profiles were associated with regional gray matter volume (GMV) differences.
METHODS: Magnetic resonance imaging scans were acquired from 121 youth (59 DMBD, 62 typically developing controls [TDC]). Latent profile analysis (LPA) was performed using six continuous symptom indicators: irritability, callousness, uncaring and unemotional traits, and proactive and reactive aggression. Regional gray matter

RATIONALE: Mutations in the vacuolar protein sorting 13 homolog C (VPS13C) gene have been associated with Parkinson disease (PD). However, the mutation of VPS13C in Parkinsonism is uncommon and the clinical characteristics are highly heterogeneous. This study identifies 2 novel pathogenic variants in VPS13C, with particular emphasis on follow-up brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images.
PATIENT CONCERNS: The patient first exhibited resting tremor in the right limb at the age of 26. As the disease progressed, he developed bradykinesia, rigidity, gait instability, cognitive decline, dysart

Menopause is associated with several negative health concerns and common menopausal symptoms. Physical activity is essential to mitigate these negative effects, but menopausal symptoms may interfere with participation in physical activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency and the perceived negative effect of menopausal symptoms among female endurance athletes. Female runners, cyclists, swimmers, and triathletes 40-60 years of age were recruited (N = 187). Participants completed an online, anonymous survey that included self-reported menopausal status; the Menopausal Rat

Neurodegenerative diseases comprise a group of chronic, usually age-related, disorders characterized by progressive neuronal loss, deformation of neuronal structure, or loss of neuronal function, leading to a substantially reduced quality of life. They remain a significant focus of scientific and clinical interest due to their increasing medical and social importance. Most neurodegenerative diseases present intracellular protein aggregation or their extracellular deposition (plaques), such as α-synuclein in Parkinson's disease and amyloid beta (Aβ)/tau aggregates in Alzheimer's. Conventional t

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Syringa oblata Lindl (ZDX) is a plant in the Oleaceae family that is the primary ingredient in the classic Tibetan medicine AKARU sinensis. The plant's stem is used as a medicine, and Tibetan doctors often use it as a sedative, a use with a history of nearly 100 years. Tibetan medicine mainly uses lilac to treat headache, forgetfulness, insomnia, irritability and other symptoms. Depression is a chronic mental disorder characterized by low mood, cognitive impairments, and physical discomfort, and it has become a significant public health issue. Given the limitati

INTRODUCTION: Postorgasmic illness syndrome (POIS) is a rare, poorly understood condition that is characterized by feeling ill after orgasm. Despite its significant impact on quality of life, POIS remains poorly understood, and effective treatment options are limited without clear guidelines. Only 18% of sexual medicine experts report symptom improvement in more than 30% of the patients. Current treatments have been used to address the various presentations such as flu-like state, mood disturbances and/or irritability, as well as congestion and inflammation. Given the lack of standardized ther

BACKGROUND: Nowadays there is an increasing use of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) both in neurological and psychiatric fields. After Food and Drug Administration approval of TMS for the therapy of treatment-resistant depression, TMS has been widely used in the context of mood disorders (MD). However, growing reports regarding the possibility of developing hypomanic/manic switch (HMS) have generated concern regarding its use in MDs.
AIM: To investigate the actual risk of developing HMS due to TMS in the treatment of MD.
METHODS: We led our research on PubMed, Scopus and Web of Scienc

UNLABELLED: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder common from childhood to adulthood, affecting 5% to 12% among the general population in developed countries. Potential etiological factors have been identified, including genetic causes, environmental elements and epigenetic components. Nutrition is currently considered an influencing factor, and several studies have explored the contribution of restriction and dietary supplements in ADHD treatments. Iron is an essential cofactor required for a number of functions, such as transport of oxygen, immune f

BACKGROUND: The terms affective dysregulation (AD) and irritability describe transdiagnostic dimensions and are characterized by an excessive reactivity to negative emotional stimuli with an affective (anger) and a behavioral component (aggression). Due to early onset, high prevalence and persistence, as well as developmental comorbidity, AD in childhood is one of the most psychosocially impairing and cost-intensive mental health conditions. AD is especially prevalent in children in the youth welfare service. Despite continuous research, there remains a substantial need for diagnostic approach

Few studies have been conducted on the prodromal and postdromal phases of the migraine attack in children and adolescents. Using a questionnaire, we found that 67% of 103 children and adolescents with migraine reported at least one prodromal symptom, with a mean number per subject of 1.8 (median 2.2). The most frequently reported prodromal symptoms were face changes, fatigue and irritability. In pediatric patients selected as having prodrome, fatigue, mood change and neck stiffness were the most frequently reported prodromal symptoms. Using a different design, Laurell et al. found that 71% of

OBJECTIVES: Across diverse groups of Gulf War (GW) veterans, reports of musculoskeletal pain, cognitive dysfunction, unexplained fatigue, chronic diarrhoea, rashes and respiratory problems are common. GW illness is a condition resulting from GW service in veterans who report a combination of these symptoms. This study integrated the GW literature using meta-analytical methods to characterise the most frequently reported symptoms occurring among veterans who deployed to the 1990-1991 GW and to better understand the magnitude of ill health among GW-deployed veterans compared with non-deployed GW

It is well-established that total testosterone (TT) in men decreases with age and that bioavailable testosterone (bio-T) falls to an even greater extent. The clinical relevance of declining androgens in the aging male and use of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) in this situation is controversial. Most studies have been short term and there are no large randomized placebo-controlled trials. Testosterone has many physiological actions in: muscles, bones, hematopoietic system, brain, reproductive and sexual organs, adipose tissue. Within these areas it stimulates: muscle growth and maintena

BACKGROUND: Endometriosis is characterized by the presence of endometrium-like tissue outside the uterus. This condition causes painful periods, chronic pelvic pain, subfertility and a profound reduction in quality of life, especially during women's reproductive years. Currently available medical therapies offer comparatively little therapeutic benefit and are often burdened by considerable side effects. However, since clinical evidence shows that pregnancy leads to alleviation of endometriotic symptoms, we have for the first time examined the effect of human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) inje
