Integrating large language model-generated culturally adapted verbal suggestions into music therapy for university students: A pilot randomized exploratory study.

Previous research has suggested that culturally mismatched interventions may cause resistance and reduce the effectiveness of music-based interventions. This pilot randomized exploratory study examined the implementation and preliminary outcomes of a music-based intervention incorporating large language model (LLM)-generated, culturally adapted verbal suggestions among Chinese undergraduate students. A total of 113 participants were randomly assigned to three multicomponent conditions: (1) Chinese film music accompanied by LLM-generated verbal suggestions involving Eastern imagery, (2) a stand

A reference-guided large language model workflow for mobile phase selection in thin-layer chromatography enabled by a polarity-space tetrahedron strategy.

Mobile phase selection in thin-layer chromatography (TLC) still relies heavily on empirical trial-and-error. Existing machine learning methods often exhibit limited predictive performance, as they depend on manual descriptor engineering and are sensitive to data quality. Here, a reference-guided large language model (LLM) workflow for TLC mobile phase recommendation is proposed. The LLM is used as a flexible inference interface that integrates structural similarity, polarity descriptors, and example-based analogical inference. The key methodological contribution is a polarity-space tetrahedron

Transforming adnexal mass assessment: how large language model improve ovarian-adnexal reporting and data system interpretation and sonographer performance.

OBJECTIVES: To assess the accuracy of large language models (LLMs) in Ovarian-Adnexal Reporting and Data System (O-RADS) categorization based on free-text ultrasound reports and to explore their potential to support radiologists with varying levels of experience. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study included patients with suspected adnexal masses from October 2022 to May 2024. A reference standard for O-RADS categorization was established by consensus of three senior radiologists. Surgical pathology served as the gold standard for determining benign versus malignant nature. Three L…

A cross-sectional evaluation of large language model chatbot interfaces for patient-facing herpes zoster information: safety, information quality, and readability.

BACKGROUND: Large language model (LLM) chatbots are increasingly used to obtain health information. However, fluent and clinically plausible responses may still contain safety-relevant omissions, inadequate source attribution and disclosure, or difficult-to-read text. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the safety, accuracy, empathy, information quality, response-level source attribution and disclosure, overall quality, and readability of five LLM chatbot interfaces answering lay-oriented questions about herpes zoster. METHODS: This cross-sectional evaluation used 46 standardised English-language questio

Large Language Model-Based Clinical Decision Support for Antibiotic Selection and Dose Recommendation in Hospitalized Patients With Pneumonia: Multicenter Retrospective Study.

BACKGROUND: Pneumonia is a common infectious disease, and antibiotic treatment in hospitalized patients must balance efficacy, safety, and resistance risk. However, antibiotic selection and dose adjustment still rely heavily on clinician experience. Although large language models (LLMs) are promising for clinical reasoning, their direct use for antibiotic selection and dose recommendation is limited by hallucinations and weak adherence to clinical constraints. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to develop and externally validate a constrained LLM-based clinical decision support pipeline for antibiot…

Toward safer digital sexual health communication: evaluating the public health reliability of large language model responses on sexually transmitted infections.

BACKGROUND: The global burden of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) continues to rise, yet stigma drives many to seek sensitive health information from artificial intelligence chatbots. The quality, safety, readability, and destigmatization of large language model (LLM) responses on sexual health remain under-evaluated, particularly for non-Western models. METHODS: This cross-sectional study constructed 30 standardized English queries (5 themes × 6 questions) informed by Google Trends, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines, and patient education platforms, and submit

Large Language Model GPT-4 Compared to Endocrinologist Responses on Initial Choice of Glucose-Lowering Medication Under Conditions of Clinical Uncertainty.

OBJECTIVE: To explore how the commercially available large language model (LLM) GPT-4 compares to endocrinologists when addressing medical questions when there is uncertainty regarding the best answer. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: This study compared responses from GPT-4 to responses from 31 endocrinologists using hypothetical clinical vignettes focused on diabetes, specifically examining the prescription of metformin versus alternative treatments. The primary outcome was the choice between metformin and other treatments. RESULTS: With a simple prompt, GPT-4 chose metformin in 12% (95% CI 7.

ChatGPT-5-Based large language model analysis versus an FDA-approved AI-CAD system for thyroid nodule ultrasound evaluation.

PURPOSE: Recent advances in multimodal large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated promising potential for medical image analysis, yet their diagnostic capability in thyroid ultrasound remains unverified. This study explored the feasibility of ChatGPT-5, the latest multimodal LLM, for thyroid nodule classification and contextualized its diagnostic performance against S-Detect, an FDA-approved commercial computer-aided diagnosis system. METHODS: In this prospective study, 141 patients with 186 nodules who underwent preoperative ultrasound and subsequent surgery were enrolled. For S-Detect, …

A comparative study of large language model-based zero-shot inference and task-specific supervised classification of breast cancer pathology reports.

OBJECTIVE: Although supervised machine learning is popular for information extraction from clinical notes, creating large annotated datasets requires extensive domain expertise and is time-consuming. Meanwhile, large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated promising transfer learning capability. In this study, we explored whether recent LLMs could reduce the need for large-scale data annotations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We curated a dataset of 769 breast cancer pathology reports, manually labeled with 12 categories, to compare zero-shot classification capability of the following LLMs: GPT-4, …

The Large Language Model ChatGPT-4 Exhibits Excellent Triage Capabilities and Diagnostic Performance for Patients Presenting With Various Causes of Knee Pain.

PURPOSE: To provide a proof-of-concept analysis of the appropriateness and performance of ChatGPT-4 to triage, synthesize differential diagnoses, and generate treatment plans concerning common presentations of knee pain. METHODS: Twenty knee complaints warranting triage and expanded scenarios were input into ChatGPT-4, with memory cleared prior to each new input to mitigate bias. For the 10 triage complaints, ChatGPT-4 was asked to generate a differential diagnosis that was graded for accuracy and suitability in comparison to a differential created by 2 orthopaedic sports medicine physicians.

Can large language models pass official high-grade exams of the European Society of Neuroradiology courses? A direct comparison between OpenAI chatGPT 3.5, OpenAI GPT4 and Google Bard.

We compared different LLMs, notably chatGPT, GPT4, and Google Bard and we tested whether their performance differs in subspeciality domains, in executing examinations from four different courses of the European Society of Neuroradiology (ESNR) notably anatomy/embryology, neuro-oncology, head and neck and pediatrics. Written exams of ESNR were used as input data, related to anatomy/embryology (30 questions), neuro-oncology (50 questions), head and neck (50 questions), and pediatrics (50 questions). All exams together, and each exam separately were introduced to the three LLMs: chatGPT 3.5, GPT4
