OBJECTIVES: Increased risk of herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2) has been proposed as a possible indirect pathway through which hormonal contraceptives (specifically depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA)) may increase the risk of HIV acquisition among women. We investigated the effects of DMPA on HSV-2 acquisition among female sex workers.

BACKGROUND: Hydrosalpinx is a rare cause of abdominal pain in paediatric patients, though cases are documented in the literature. Its aetiology differs considerably from traditional hydrosalpinx due to ascending sexually transmitted infection. Hydrosalpinx can present mimicking an acute abdomen or can be asymptomatic. Management of paediatric hydrosalpinx varies, but often involves surgical removal of the affected tube.
METHODS: In June 2015, a literature search using relevant keywords was completed on MEDLINE and EMBASE databases to determine best management of paediatric hydrosalpinx.

In a woman at the age of 30, carcinoma of the endometrium was diagnosed after hysteroscopic polypectomy. Her family history fulfilled Bethesda diagnostic criteria for Lynch syndrome or hereditary nonpolyposis colon cancer. Conservative treatment was chosen based on the tumor grade, her age, and her desire for pregnancy. Three months after high-dose progesterone treatment successful conception was achieved. In this report, we suggest that individual approach should be considered in young women with low-grade endometrial carcinoma, positive family history, and unfulfilled motherhood.

We identified polyglandular autoimmune (PGA) syndrome type III in a 24-year-old nurse with common variable immunodeficiency (CVID). An immune-mediated disorder, membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis, was diagnosed when she was 15 years old. Clinical examination and laboratory findings revealed a PGA syndrome due to the presence of hypergonadotropic hypogonadism, insufficient growth hormone response and thyroid autoimmunity. The patient had neither adrenal disease nor hypoparathyroidism. Therefore we concluded that this patient has PGA syndrome type III. This is an interesting case, because

A large introductory study of Cyclofem, a once-a-month injectable contraceptive, was conducted in three Mexican provinces. A total of 3457 healthy women participated: 640 women from rural areas (community-based component) and 2817 women from urban and suburban areas (health center-based component).
