Outcomes reported in studies of anal high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions treatments: systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Anal high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) is a precursor of anal squamous cell carcinoma (ASCC). Reported outcomes from treatment trials vary widely, limiting understanding of the effectiveness of different interventions. This systematic review aimed to summarize the outcomes reported in studies evaluating treatments in anal HSIL. METHODS: A systematic review of MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, and the Cochrane Library (inception to June 2025) was conducted. Eligible studies evaluated any anal HSIL treatment in any population. Verbatim outcomes and associated definitions, m

Philadelphia Chromosome Positive Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia Blastic Crisis in a Patient with Unusual Primary Myelofibrosis Characteristics; A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) are divided into BCR-ABL positive Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and BCR-ABL negative MPNs including Polycythemia vera (PV), Essential Thrombocythemia (ET) and Primary myelofibrosis (PMF). Evaluation of the Philadelphia chromosome in MPNs is a diagnostic requirement for classic CML. CASE REPORT: In 2020, a 37-year-old woman with negative cytogenetic testing for Janus kinase2 (JAK2), Calreticulin (CALR), myeloproliferative leukemia virus oncogene (MPL), and positive for BCR-ABL1 mutation with reticular fibrosis in bone marrow was diagnosed as C

Oral mucosa involvement in pediatric patients with xeroderma pigmentosum: a comprehensive review.

BACKGROUND: Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder presenting with an inability to repair UV-induced DNA damage. This can lead to the development of neoplasms affecting multiple organ systems, with onset often in childhood. Unfortunately, no cure currently exists for XP, and management strategies focus on sun protection and early intervention for malignancies. Although most skin problems in XP patients are UV induced, various oral lesions are also described. However, the literature has not extensively characterized the oral manifestations and their prognostic signifi

Malignant lesions of the ear.

The dermatologic lesions of the external ear are quite protean and they encompass pre-malignant, malignant and inflammatory entities. The ear is endowed with functional and cosmetic importance and it is part of the "H-zone", which is the area of the head that generally presents tumors that can be considered high risk regardless of their size. As a matter of fact, skin malignancies of the ear tend to have a less benign course compared to the ones located on other areas of the body and complete excision has proven to be challenging. This mini-review provides an overview on the malignant cutaneou

Diverse landscape of dermatologic toxicities from small-molecule inhibitor cancer therapy.

BACKGROUND: Advances in molecular biology and genetics have contributed to breakthrough treatments directed at specific pathways associated with the development of cancer. Small-molecule inhibitors (Nibs) aimed at a variety of cellular pathways have been efficacious; however, they are associated with significant dermatologic toxicities. METHODS: We conducted a comprehensive review of dermatologic toxicities associated with Nibs categorized into the following five groups: (a) mitogen-activated protein kinase; (b) growth factor/multi-tyrosine kinase; (c) cell division/DNA repair; (d) signaling

Adverse effects of ultraviolet radiation: a brief review.

Solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR) has always been part of the environment of man. UVB is required for the conversion of 7-deoxycholesterol to vitamin D, which is critically important in the maintenance of healthy bones and research is making clear that it has other potential roles in maintenance of human health. Exposure to UVR, whether of solar or artificial origin, also carries potential risks to human health. UVR is a known carcinogen and excessive exposure-at least to solar radiation in sunlight-increases risk of cancer of the lip, basal cell, and squamous cell carcinoma of the skin and cu

Primary extramedullary plasmacytoma of the esophagus.

An uncommon manifestation of plasma cell neoplasia occurs outside the bone marrow and is designated "extramedullary plasmacytoma." These are usually encountered in mucosal sites of the head and neck region. The gastrointestinal tract may be secondarily involved in multiple myeloma or be the site of primary extramedullary plasmacytomas (PEMPs). The esophagus is the least common site of gastrointestinal PEMP. A 58-year-old man presented with dysphagia for solids over a period of 2 months. Otherwise, he was well and systemic examination did not reveal anything of note. After a nondiagnostic biops

Beta human chorionic gonadotropin concentrations in serum of patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

BACKGROUND: Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is normally produced and secreted by trophoblastic cells during pregnancy and from gestational trophoblastic neoplasms. It is also detected in ovarian, stomach, and colon adenocarcinomas, as well as in squamous cell carcinoma of the oesophagus. Recently, interest in its role in the pathogenesis of tumours has been enlivened after the presence of beta hCG in the cell membrane of several malignant cells was shown in vitro. AIMS: To investigate the circulating concentrations of beta hCG in patients with exocrine pancreatic adenocarcinoma and to exam

Clinical presentation and outcome in cats with aural squamous cell carcinoma: a review of 25 cases (2010-2021).

CASE SERIES SUMMARY: Ear canal neoplasia is uncommon in cats. Ceruminous gland adenocarcinoma is the most frequently reported malignant neoplasm of the feline ear canal, and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the most common malignant neoplasm diagnosed in the feline middle ear. However, limited information exists on the outcome of cats diagnosed with SCC of the ear canal, middle or inner ear. Therefore, the objective of this study was to describe the outcome of cats diagnosed with SCC affecting these locations. Medical records were reviewed at multiple institutions to identify cats with a defin

A Patient with an Ileocecal MiNEN and a Synchronous Squamous Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer: Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Mixed neuroendocrine non-neuroendocrine neoplasms (MiNENs) are rare tumors composed of two different histological components, one of which is of a neuroendocrine origin. Given its suggested underdiagnosis and consequent low prevalence, no clear diagnostic and treatment guidelines are available, and treatment usually follows regimens similar to that of the most aggressive component. On the other hand, multiple primary tumors (MPTs) are also rare neoplastic entities that usually confer a challenge regarding treatment options, for a regimen that comprises both the primary and the synchronous/meta

Genital neoplasms treated by en bloc resection and penile retroversion in horses: 10 cases (1977-1986).

The medical records of 10 horses with invasive neoplasms of the penis, prepuce, and/or superficial inguinal lymph nodes in which treatment involved en bloc resection and penile retroversion were reviewed. All were geldings and ranged in age from 12 to 25 years (mean, 19 years). Evaluation of biopsy specimens obtained before surgery confirmed lymphosarcoma in 1 horse and squamous cell carcinoma in 9 horses. Typical history included swelling, ulceration, and abscessation of the penis and prepuce and large superficial inguinal lymph nodes. Complications after surgery included dehiscence of the ur

Pitfalls of fine-needle aspiration cytology of parotid membranous basal cell adenoma-A review of pitfalls in FNA cytology of salivary gland neoplasms with basaloid cell features.

Membranous basal cell adenoma (MBCA) is a rare benign salivary gland neoplasm. It is difficult to diagnose MBCA based on fine-needle aspiration (FNA) cytology due to rare reporting of its FNA cytology and overlapping of its FNA cytologic features with some benign and malignant entities. We present a case of MBCA in a 67-year-old female that was originally misinterpreted as adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) on FNA cytology. The FNA smears showed numerous uniform small basaloid epithelial cells with round or oval nuclei and inconspicuous nucleoli, and scant cytoplasm. The basaloid cells surround ac

GATA3: a multispecific but potentially useful marker in surgical pathology: a systematic analysis of 2500 epithelial and nonepithelial tumors.

GATA3 is a transcription factor important in the differentiation of breast epithelia, urothelia, and subsets of T lymphocytes. It has been suggested to be useful in the evaluation of carcinomas of mammary or urothelial origin or metastatic carcinomas, but its distribution in normal and neoplastic tissues is incompletely mapped. In this study, we examined normal developing and adult tissues and 2040 epithelial and 460 mesenchymal or neuroectodermal neoplasms for GATA3 expression to explore its diagnostic value in surgical pathology, using monoclonal antibody (clone L50-823) and Leica Bond autom
