Prediction and monitoring the therapeutic response of chronic dermal wounds.

A significant proportion of chronic wounds fail to heal in response to treatment of underlying pathologies combined with good wound care practice. Current prognostic tests to identify these wounds rely on the use of algorithms based on clinically measurable parameters such as wound dimensions and wound duration. Venous leg ulcers may be stratified into healing/non healing at 24 weeks of compression therapy and diabetic foot ulcer treatment outcome assessed using a 3-parameter algorithm. Accurate and reproducible measurement of wound area is required for these algorithms to have clinical utilit

[Distinguishing misconceptions between outcome prediction and treatment effect prediction models].

Prediction models are increasingly used to inform clinical decision-making. However, outcome prediction models (i.e., traditional prediction models) and treatment effect prediction models (i.e., prediction under interventions) are often confused in practice, which may mislead clinical decisions and lead to adverse clinical outcomes. Using typical study cases, this paper systematically clarifies common misconceptions and key differences between the two model types. It presents the latest advances in the development and application of treatment-effect prediction models, aiming to avoid misinterp

The cost of ensembling: Is it always worth combining global retail forecasting models?

Given the continuous increase in dataset sizes and the complexity of forecasting models, the trade-off between forecast accuracy and computational cost is emerging as an extremely relevant topic, especially in the context of ensemble learning for time series forecasting. To assess it, we evaluated ten base models and eight ensemble configurations across two large-scale retail datasets, considering both point and probabilistic accuracy under varying retraining frequencies. We showed that ensembles consistently improve forecasting performance, particularly in probabilistic settings. However, the

Power Load Probabilistic Prediction Based on Multi-Value Quantile Regression and Timing Fusion Ensemble Learning Model.

The core component to ensure the refined and safe operation of distribution network scheduling is 10 kV bus load probabilistic prediction. However, existing probabilistic prediction methods suffer from insufficient dynamic feature extraction and compromised prediction reliability caused by quantile crossing. To address these issues, this paper proposes a 10 kV bus load probabilistic prediction method integrating multi-value quantile regression (MQR) and a temporal fusion ensemble learning model (ELM). Firstly, a temporal fusion ensemble learning model is constructed, which integrates multiple

Backward joint model for the joint dynamic prediction of time-to-event and longitudinal data: basic formulation and new developments.

Dynamic prediction of future clinical outcomes based on longitudinally measured predictors plays a crucial role in disease management and patient counseling, particularly when conventional static models are inadequate. Joint modeling of longitudinal and time-to-event data provides a useful framework for addressing this challenge. In this paper, we present a comprehensive development of the recently proposed backward joint model (BJM; Shen and Li, 2021), which factorizes the likelihood into the distribution of time-to-event data and the conditional distribution of longitudinal data given the ev

Detecting changepoints in dynamical systems: Modeling time-varying transmission of seasonal influenza.

Seasonal influenza epidemics exhibit complex transmission dynamics influenced by time-varying extrinsic factors such as social behavior and seasonal effects. Estimating changes in transmission rates is critical to enable accurate forecasting of the epidemic curve. This study presents a framework for detecting changepoints in the transmission parameter ([Formula: see text]), applied as a piecewise constant function within a deterministic compartmental model. Using hospitalized case data from four recent influenza A seasons in Ireland (2019/2020 and 2022-2025), we applied iterated filtering and
