A New Primary Care Model Based on Population Needs: A Nationwide Cross-Sectional Study.

Background/Objectives: The role of the primary health care nurse has evolved since the Spanish Ministry of Health officially established the professional profile of the nurse specialist in Primary Health Care in 2005. This study aimed to explore demands and expectations of adult primary health care service users regarding the role of the nurse specialist in primary health care. Methods: A nationwide cross-sectional study co

'Obstetricians' perceptions of midwifery-led care in Bangladesh - A qualitative study.

The midwife as a separate and autonomous profession is a relatively new concept in Bangladesh; as a result, its integration into the maternal healthcare system is yet to be determined. Obstetricians are key stakeholders in maternal health, and understanding how they perceive midwifery-led care can provide valuable insight into the acceptance of the model, and the profession itself. Data was collected from 13 semi-structured interviews conducted with obstetricians working in the Dhaka division, Bangladesh, in July 2023. Thematic analysis was then carried out on the transcripts. Four main themes

A Delphi study to determine the European core curriculum for Master programmes in genetic counselling.

Genetic counsellors have been working in some European countries for at least 30 years. Although there are great disparities between the numbers, education, practice and acceptance of these professionals across Europe, it is evident that genetic counsellors and genetic nurses in Europe are working autonomously within teams to deliver patient care. The aim of this study was to use the Delphi research method to develop a core curriculum to guide the educational preparation of these professionals in Europe. The Delphi method enables the researcher to utilise the views and opinions of a group of r

The Professional Project of the Korean Pharmaceutical Association and the Pluralistic Character of South Korea's Healthcare System, 1950s-1970s.

This article examines the historical process through which pharmacists, organized through the Korean Pharmaceutical Association, sought to establish their professional status and social roles within South Korea's changing healthcare system from the 1950s through the 1970s. Drawing on the concept of the "professional project," it analyzes a series of collective efforts through which pharmacists sought to secure their jurisdiction in the pharmaceutical market while legitimizing their professional status by demonstrating their expertise and social necessity amid competition with various healthcar

This qualitative study aimed to identify factors that influence genetic counselors' perceptions and formation of their professional identities. Using Social Identity Theory as a theoretical framework, semi-structured recorded interviews were conducted with 50 genetic counselors who

[Health Literacy Among German Health Professionals-To-Be - Exploratory Pilot Study].

OBJECTIVE: Health literacy is defined as the ability to collect, understand, evaluate and use health information. Previous studies have shown that the German population has only an average level of health literacy. Health professionals such as nurses, doctors or midwives need to be health literate themselves to promote patients' health literacy, as well as to protect and promote their own health. So far, there is a lack of research about health literacy among health professionals in Germany. The objective of this study was to assess the health literacy of health professionals. METHOD: The stu

Preparing the genetic counseling workforce for the future in Australasia.

Current genetic counseling students will graduate into a workforce involving more opportunities, diversity, and uncertainty than any previous generation. Preparing the future genetic counseling workforce is a dynamic challenge, both for the profession and for educators. The dominance of the medical model in the state funded Australian healthcare system creates a power imbalance between doctors and other health professionals. As a result, professional regulation to protect the public from harm in line with the United States, the UK, and Canada only became mandatory in 2019. Professional regulat

Strengthening incident learning in radiotherapy practice: insights from the MARLIN study.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Incident Learning Systems (ILSs) are central to patient safety in radiotherapy, enabling learning from adverse events and near misses. Despite EU regulatory requirements, substantial variability persists across Europe in the implementation and effectiveness of ILSs in radiotherapy. This paper presents radiotherapy-specific recommendations derived from the MARLIN study to support harmonised, risk-informed implementation of ILSs. METHODS: The 24-month MARLIN study, conducted under the SAMIRA Action Plan, employed a structured literature review, an online European survey

Developing global consensus about core knowledge and skills for genetic counselor education.

There are over 130 genetic counselor (GC) training programs documented in more than 30 countries. Some regions also have developed practice-based competencies and guidelines for accrediting GC training, often including lists of required curriculum items (for example: ACGC, CAGC, EBMG, HGSA). However, areas where genetic counseling is emerging or desired may struggle to create training approaches from these often-aspirational knowledge and skill development lists. Educational function, rather than AI status alone, provided the primary organizing principle. Simulat
