The present study determined the effect of the housing condition experienced by old adult male rats on the appearance and number of dendritic spines. Specifically, 20-month-old rats were killed following 6 months of living in either a social environment (three to a cage) or living alone. The total number of dendritic spines per unit length was examined along segments of oblique, basal, and apical dendritic branches of pyramidal cells from layers II, III, Va, and Vb of the visual cortex. The effect of repeated electroconvulsive shocks (ECS) on growth hormone (GH) secretion was studied in rats. Male Sprague-Dawley animals were given one ECS daily for 10 days under halothane anaesthesia. Control animals were anaesthetised only. The results of operative manipulation of the vas deferens have unknown results. In order to document early and late structural changes in the vas after simple operative manipulations, the vasa deferentia of 120 Wistar rats were subjected to 4 different manipulations. Forty-six female Sprague-Dawley rats (170-200 g) were randomly assigned to one of six treatment groups receiving 0.1, 5.0, or 25.0 ppm dietary vanadium with either normal (0.13 mEq/g) or high (1.82 mEq/g) dietary potassium. Fifteen adult female rats were subjected to one of the following surgical procedures: (1) bilateral neocortical ablation; (2) unilateral neocortical ablation; or (3) sham surgery. Following recovery, all rats were tested on a fixed-time 1-min food schedule for acquisition of schedule-induced polydipsia. Contrary to a previous report by Bigler, Fleming and Shearer [1], no attenuation of polydipsia was seen in either group of rats with neocortical damage.

Studies of the anionic coordination complex 99Tc-oxo[N,N'-ethylene-bis(2-mercaptoacetimido)]technetate(V) ([TcO(ema)]-) are described.
