Strabometry precision: intra-examiner repeatability and agreement in measuring the magnitude of the angle of latent binocular ocular deviations (heterophorias or latent strabismus).

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: This study was designed to compare heterophoria measurements obtained using the methods: prisms cover test (prism alternate cover test), von Graefe technique, Maddox rod test and modified Thorington test. Given the different methodological features of these tests, our working hypothesis was that these tests would not be interchangeable and repeatability would vary. METHODS: Horizontal deviation measurements were made at: far distance (six meters) and near distance (40 centimeters) on two occasions in 61 young subjects of mean age 19.7 years (range 18 -32 years), with e

Unilateral paralytic strabismus in the adult cat induces plastic changes in interocular disparity along the visual midline: contribution of the corpus callosum.

Neurones activated through the corpus callosum (CC) in the cat visual cortex are known to be almost entirely located at the 17/18 border. Th … s along the visual midline. Recently, we have demonstrated that a few weeks of unilateral paralytic strabismus surgically induced at adulthood does not alter the cortical distribution of these units but leads to a loss of their orientation selectivity and an increase of their RF size, mainly toward the ipsilateral hemifield when transcallosally activated (Wa …

Clinical Impact of Specific Extraocular Muscle Manipulation and the Oculocardiac Reflex on Postoperative Vomiting in Pediatric Strabismus Surgery: A Multicenter, Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Strabismus surgery, which is commonly performed in children, poses a high risk of postoperative vomiting. The current anesthesia guidelines for the prevention of postoperative vomiting in children are based on heterogeneous populations involving different types of surgery, and risk factors for postoperative vomiting in, specifically, the pediatric strabismus surgery population are unclear. Moreover, the effects of manipulating the deeply attached extraocular muscles and the oculocardiac reflex on this risk remain inconclusive. AIM: To evaluate the associations among inferior obliq…
