Retrospective Analysis of Physician-based Surveys Published in OPRS.

PURPOSE: To review physician-based clinical surveys published in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. METHODS: Complementary Ovid and PubMed searches of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery journal content were performed for the term "survey." Results were narrowed to studies that specifically addressed physicians' clinical practices. This search resulted in 162 articles, and after dual-investigator independent screening, 13 surveys met inclusion criteria. RESULTS: Of the 13 surveys published from 2007 to January 2017, 6 were published since 2015, showing an increased tren

[Correction of the congenital malformations of the front chest wall by the modelling technique of sternochondroplasty: technique and results on a series of 14 cases].

In the congenital malformations of the front chest wall showing depression or protrusion, the cardiorespiratory disorders are inconstant and often not linked with the distortion. On the other hand psychoaffective repercussions are major in adolescents and young adults justifying recourse to surgery with morphological and aesthetic aiming. The authors present the technique of modelling sternochondroplasty by raising with osteosynthesis by slide fastener-handle of Martin-Borrelly, applied to the correction of congenital malformation of the front chest wall in young adult, both of protrusion (pec

Two cases of isolated unilateral paralysis of hypoglossal nerve after uncomplicated orotracheal intubation.

We report two cases of postoperative unilateral hypoglossal nerve palsy following uncomplicated orotracheal intubation for plastic surgery. Both patients underwent a long procedure and were installed in a non physiological position. These two factors might have played an important role in the mechanism of nerve damage. Furthermore, other etiologies of neurological injury like a difficult airway or anatomical anomalies were not present. The aim of these two case reports is to sensitize the anesthetists to hypoglossal nerve palsy and to highlight a potential clinical problem of positioning durin

[Corrective craniofacial surgery in the acrocephalosyndactylia syndrome (Saethre-Chotzen syndrome)].

The possibility of plastic surgery in acrocephalosyndactylia syndrome during infancy is shown. Due to her main signs and symptoms and the mode of inheritance the patient suffered from an acrocephalosyndactylia syndrome type III (Saethre-Chotzen). Craniofacial surgery with frontal craniotomy, turn of frontal bone and frontal orbital advancement were performed at the age of eight months, using bone plates developed by Luhr. The reconstruction gave an aesthetically satisfactory result, and further development was normal. The condition for a good result is the cooperation between plastic surgeons,

Giant Condyloma Acuminatum: A Review of Reconstructive Options.

The management of giant condyloma acuminatum in the male population remains challenging given the anatomic complexity of this region. Preservation of micturition and sexual function are key considerations. After primary resection, reconstructive plastic surgery is often necessary for coverage of soft-tissue defects, necessitating a multidisciplinary approach by urologic, plastic, and colorectal surgery. Because of the rarity of this disease, a defined treatment protocol has not been established. This review aims to outline key considerations and reconstructive options for this challenging dise

Anatomy of secretory glands in the eyelid and conjunctiva: a photographic review.

The eyelid and conjunctiva are main targets in ophthalmic plastic surgery. Although dry eyes are known to occasionally occur after ophthalmic plastic surgery, little attention has been paid to the secretory glands in the eyelid and conjunctiva. The secretary glands in the eyelid and conjunctiva contain the main lacrimal gland, accessory lacrimal glands of Wolfring and Krause, goblet cells, ciliary glands of Moll and Zeis, and the meibomian gland of the tarsal plate. Understanding the details of these glands is helpful in preventing and managing secretion reduction after oculoplastic procedures

The Psychological Health Benefits of Aesthetic Surgery.

Heightened rates of psychological distress and mental health disorders are observed in aesthetic surgery populations and are frequently cited as motivating factors for the pursuit of such procedures. Although mental health disorders are often considered a contraindication due to the risk of adverse outcomes posttreatment, the therapeutic benefits of aesthetic surgery are well documented and can lead to the resolution of distress and disorders. This paper presents a literature review of the psychosocial health outcomes for such populations and the associated clinical guidance for clinicians. A

Female genital cosmetic surgery in Indonesia: a qualitative analysis of medical advertising on Instagram.

Research on female genital cosmetic surgery usually comes from Anglophone countries. We investigated female genital cosmetic surgery in the predominantly Muslim South-East Asian country of Indonesia, aiming to identify the procedures offered by medical clinics on Instagram, how they are justified, and what they claim to achieve; and to understand what this means for women and their bodies. The 184 eligible posts from 19 clinics between 1 January to 31 March 2021 offered vaginoplasty, labiaplasty, hymenoplasty, and other procedures. Reflexive thematic analysis yielded three themes: Why you shou

Atresiaplasty in Congenital Aural Atresia: What the Facial Plastic Surgeon Needs to Know.

Patients with microtia and congenital aural atresia should have a comprehensive hearing assessment early in life. Options for hearing habilitation should be presented, and children with bilateral aural atresia should be fitted with a bone conducting hearing device to support normal speech and language development. If atresia surgery is pursued, the microtia surgeon must be aware of certain principles. This article presents recommendations on options for potentially improving hearing in children with congenital aural atresia: assessing surgical candidacy; chronology and timing of surgeries; fun
