A simple method of aphakic refraction using ultrasonographic axial length measurement and keratometry was tried on 97 eyes of adult aphakic patients. The refractive errors determined by this method and by retinoscopy were compared to the subjective refraction of the same eyes. The ultrasonographically determined refractive errors were significantly nearer the subjective refraction than were the retinoscopically determined refractive errors.

Refracting glasses and clips eliminate the many vertex distance-pantoscopic tilt pitfalls found in aphakic and pseudophakic visual examination. The amount of asphericity used in the prescribed aphakic lens enables the patients to function normally in his environment. Keratometry readings display the surgical wound healing process. Absorption tints are prescribed to reduce the amount of harmful ultraviolet rays from entering the human eye.

A mirror with a radius of curvature of 211.5 mm permits a patient who has undergone cataract surgery to examine his own aphakic eye without corrective lenses. A slight adjustment of the eye-to-mirror distance also permits examination of a normal eye, a hyperopic eye, and a presbyopic eye requiring a plus lens correction. The mirror can be used to monitor postoperative status and the course of a disease, and for inserting and removing contact lenses.

In a recent study of perforating eye injuries the authors found that in 21% there was no binocular function. To prevent complications arising from this, early fitting of hard contact lenses seems necessary. The problems of fitting contact lenses to posttraumatically aphakic eyes are discussed, with special regard to aniseikonia.

Presented is a modified technique for removing a failed endothelial allograft in an aniridic aphakic eye that reduces the risk of posterior dislocation. This technique involves the creation of an artificial iris plane using a Sheets glide by trimming it into the shape of a dagger so that it can be pulled through the anterior chamber and fixated by both its passage through a paracentesis incision and the main incision. The Sheets glide then acts as a physical barrier, or scaffold, to allow safe removal of the failed endothelial allograft and subsequent repeat endothelial keratoplasty while avoi

PURPOSE: We report a review of the literature on complications of secondary lens implantation without capsular support.
METHODS: We assesse … cases respectively.
CONCLUSION: Secondary IOL implication is a good alternative for correction of aphakia eyes without a posterior capsule. This analysis shows no one procedures offers more safety than the others. The decisive facto r for choosing among the different types of IOL appears to be surgical experience.

A service program for selecting magnifying means has been developed and tried in 59 patients (110 eyes) with senile maculodystrophy and cataracts. Attempts at choosing traditional magnifiers (magnifying glasses, hyperoculars, telescopic eyeglasses, and contact lens-eyeglasses system) were made with due consideration for the focus of lesions and the anatomooptic parameters of the eye (corneal refraction, size of the anteroposterior axis, and clinical refraction). The results indicate that the proposed program helped effectively choose traditional magnifiers for the majority (81.35%) of the abov

UNLABELLED: The purpose of the study is to show the efficacy and advantages secondary implant of PC-IOL in certain conditions.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: We studied 8 aphakic eyes which had been operated on in the past for senile and traumatic cataract and who desired an secondary implantation of IOL. In 3 causes it was performed Yag laser capsulotomy for secondary cataract. The functional results in all cases were between 0.7-1 with optimal correction.
CONCLUSION: Secondary implantation of PC-IOL is a good solution in aphakic eyes, in certain ocular conditions.
