[A Case of Sigmoid Colon Cancer with Synchronous Pulmonary Metastases Diagnosed during Follow-Up after Primary Tumor Resection].

A 62-year-old woman was admitted and underwent endoscopic mucosal resection for sigmoid colon cancer.Histopathological examination revealed submucosal invasion of 3,000 μm with positive tumor budding(Grade 2).Subsequently, she underwent laparoscopic sigmoidectomy with D2 lymphadenectomy.Postoperative pathology showed no regional lymph node metastasis, and the disease was staged as pStage Ⅰ.Chest CT scans revealed small nodules in the right middle lobe and left lower lobe that had been noted preoperatively and demonstrated gradual enlargement.Twenty four months after the initial surgery, these

Operative Approach for Robotic Descending Colon Cancer Requiring Bidirectional Mobilization of the Splenic Flexure and Sigmoid-Descending Junction.

INTRODUCTION: Robotic Descending Colectomy Occasionally Requires Splenic Flexure (SF) and Sigmoid-Descending Junction (SDJ) Mobilization. In Multiport Robotic Surgery, This Bidirectional Mobilization Can Be Technically Demanding Because the Operative Field Extends in Two Directions, and Conventional Curved-Line or Stepped-Line Configurations May Limit Operative Envelope or Cause Arm Interference. MATERIALS AND SURGICAL TECHNIQUE: For lesions requiring continuous SF-SDJ access, an oblique-line configuration using the da Vinci Xi (DVXi) or the da Vinci SP (DVSP) system is typically required for

Axillo-Femoral Bypass Followed by Pelvic Exenteration for Locally Advanced Sigmoid Colon Cancer Invading the Common Iliac Artery.

INTRODUCTION: Initially, unresectable locally advanced colorectal cancers are still not uncommon. Despite recently developed systemic treatment has extended the survival of patients with unresectable and recurrent disease, surgical resection offers the chance for a cure or long-term survival. Recently, with improvement in the safety of major vascular reconstruction, several reports have suggested that extended pelvic tumor resection with vascular reconstruction with curative intent can be performed safely; however, the indications for arterial vascular reconstruction remain controversial and a

Extensive spontaneous intramural hematoma of rectum and sigmoid colon in a patient undergoing anticoagulant therapy: A case report.

RATIONALE: Intramural hematoma of the large intestine is a rare and potentially life-threatening condition. Nonspecific clinical symptoms pose a diagnostic challenge, necessitating prompt recognition for timely and appropriate management. The selection of an optimal therapeutic approach depends on multiple factors, including the etiology and severity of bleeding, the patient's overall condition, and the availability of various treatment modalities. PATIENT CONCERNS: This case report describes a 67-year-old male admitted for acute abdominal pain and hematochezia persisting for several hours.

Ischemic Sigmoid Colon Presenting As Hemoperitoneum From an Avulsed Mesocolon During Colonoscopy: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Colonoscopy has proven efficacy for both screening and diagnostic purposes. Although the risk of complications during colonoscopy is low, it is not negligible. As such, we present the case of a 72-year-old male patient who presented with abdominal pain and positive peritoneal signs post-colonoscopy. He was found to have anemia and acute on chronic kidney disease. An abdominal CT scan found evidence of hemoperitoneum. Subsequently, he underwent a diagnostic laparoscopy converted into an open exploratory laparotomy to identify the source of bleeding, an avulsed mesocolon. A review of the literat

Perforation of sigmoid colon by a migrated intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD), diagnosis and surgical management: a case report.

We describe the case of a 43-year-old woman presented with an 8-month history of intermittent non-specific abdominal pain. She had an Intrauterine Contraceptive Device (IUCD) inserted 4-years ago and the device was still in-situ. After initial gynaecological assessment, further clinical radiological investigations, computerized tomography imaging showed that the intraluminal part of the radiological foreign body was seen to be possibly perforating the sigmoid colon after having migrated. Diagnostic laparoscopy confirmed this and a laparotomy was performed to remove the foreign body (IUCD) foll

A Rare Case of Severe Post-operative Pyoderma Gangrenosum After Surgery for Perforated Diverticulitis at the Sigmoid Colon.

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a nonbacterial ulcerating skin condition. It is typically associated with other systemic disorders. However, approximately 20%-30% of cases are idiopathic. Post-operative PG (PPG) is a rare type of PG with a rapidly expanding cutaneous ulcer at a surgical site and is often misdiagnosed as a wound infection. The difficulty in diagnosis can lead to unnecessary surgical interventions and delay in the treatment of PG. Herein, we present the case of a 68-year-old patient with severe PPG with no underlying diseases. He underwent an emergency laparotomy (Hartmann's proced

Coexistence of multiple liver metastases from sigmoid colon cancer and a gastrointestinal stromal tumor in the small intestine.

A 60-year-old man was referred to our hospital for the evaluation and treatment of general malaise. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography detected sigmoid colon cancer that had invaded the bladder, multiple liver metastases, and a small intestinal tumor. Hartmann's procedure was performed, with partial bladder and small bowel resection. A pathological examination revealed that the patient had sigmoid colon cancer and a gastrointestinal stromal tumor. The biopsy findings of a tumor in segment 8 of the liver indicated the presence of adenocarcinoma, thereby indicating the origin of multiple live

Mature Solid Teratoma of the Retroperitoneum Presenting as Sigmoid Colon Polyp with Lower Gastrointestinal Bleeding: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Mature colonic teratomas are rare tumors and no case, to the best of our knowledge, has been reported from the African continent. In addition, some pedunculated teratomas in the colon have been treated by endoscopic polypectomy and classified as primary teratoma of the colon. We report a case of a distinct intra sigmoid pedunculated teratoma originating from the retroperitoneum of a 4-year-old African girl and we highlight the potential for misclassification of primary origin of endoscopically removed polypoid teratomas in the colon. CASE PRESENTATION: A 4 year-old black African f

Spindle Cell Sarcoma (SCS); a case of primary leiomyosarcoma (LMS) of the sigmoid colon presented as intestinal obstruction.

Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is a common form of soft tissue sarcoma. Primary colonic LMS is an extremely rare entity, comprising 1-2% of gastrointestinal malignancies. Primary mesenchymal sarcomas of the gastrointestinal system are rare and constitute just 0.1-3% of all gastrointestinal tumours. LMS is the most common variant of such tumours and represents just 0.12% of colorectal malignancies. We present a case of a 65-year-old female, who presented to the emergency department with 3 days history of obstipation and generalized abdominal pain. Radiology (X-ray and ultrasound) indicated a large pelvic

Modeling Complex Deformations of the Sigmoid Colon Between External Beam Radiation Therapy and Brachytherapy Images of Cervical Cancer.

PURPOSE: In this study, we investigated registration methods for estimating the large interfractional sigmoid deformations that occur between external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) and brachytherapy (BT) for cervical cancer. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Sixty-three patients were retrospectively analyzed. The sigmoid colon was delineated on 2 computed tomography images acquired during EBRT (without applicator) and BT (with applicator) for each patient. Five registration approaches were compared to propagate the contour of the sigmoid from BT to EBRT anatomies: rigid registration, commercial hybrid (

Incarcerated sigmoid colon cancer in an inguinal hernia sac associated with an abdominal wall abscess: a case report.

BACKGROUND: An inguinal hernia is a common disease; however, a malignant tumor within the inguinal hernia sac is rare, and perforated colon cancer in the hernia sac is extremely rare. CASE PRESENTATION: A 73-year-old man presented to our hospital with high fever and painful bulging of the lower abdomen. Computed tomography showed air-containing fluid in the abdominal wall, as well as localized wall thickness of the sigmoid colon in the left groin. An emergency operation revealed a huge subcutaneous abscess and a hard mass of the sigmoid colon within an indirect inguinal hernia sac. Sigmoidect

Laparoscopic surgery for sigmoid colon cancer after multiple operations including urinary diversion with Indiana pouch: A case report.

A 73-year-old man with lower abdominal pain was diagnosed at our hospital with sigmoid colon cancer. He had previously undergone radical cystectomy with Indiana pouch construction and gastrectomy to treat bladder cancer and gastric cancer, respectively. We performed a laparoscopic Hartmann's operation with Japanese D3 lymph node dissection. We observed severe adhesion in the abdominal cavity; adhesions between the urostomy and sigmoid colon were particularly severe. The tumor had invaded to the distal rectum, which had adhered to the pubic bone and the previously reconstructed urinary pouch. B

A case of sigmoid colon adenocarcinoma diagnosed as facial cutaneous metastasis for survival after operation for 37 months.

Cutaneous metastasis of an internal malignancy is uncommon and is estimated to occur in 0.7-9% of patients with internal cancer including autopsy cases. We would like to report a case of long survival of sigmoid colon adenocarcinoma diagnosed as an instance of facial cutaneous metastasis. A 68-year-old male was admitted to our hospital for a tumor mass on the left side of his cheek. In his past history, acute myocardial infarction had occurred 2 years earlier. He also had chronic renal failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Histologic findings from the biopsy sample of this facial

Laparoscopic Inferior Mesenteric Artery Peeling: An Alternative to High or Low Vascular Ligation for Sigmoid Colon Cancer Resection.

BACKGROUND: In sigmoid cancer, both inferior mesenteric artery high or low ligations are accepted for curative purposes. Since inferior mesenteric artery ligation could compromise blood flow to the anastomosis, potentially increasing anastomotic leakage onset, real oncological benefits and possible disadvantages related to vascular transection level are still on debate. We introduce totally laparoscopic inferior mesenteric artery peeling technique to release from the concept of lymph nodal harvesting linked to arterial transection level. METHODS: Over a period of 24 months, 31 patients presen
