The author injected [1-14C]arachidonic acid into the anterior chamber of the rabbit eye, and its metabolism was studied in vivo in the various eye tissues. Incorporation of the radioisotope was analyzed in individual phospholipids and neutral lipids, and its conversion to oxygenated metabolites was evaluated in the three corneal layers and the aqueous humor, iris-ciliary body, lens, vitreous, and "rest of eye." We treated 16 eyes with diabetic tractional retinal detachment with a new method of surgical dissection whereby diabetic preretinal membranes and adherent posterior hyaloid were excised and removed as a single unit. Thirteen cases of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment repaired by pneumatic retinopexy were reviewed retrospectively. All patients were followed for a minimum of 6 months after surgery. At the end of follow-up, retinal detachment repair by pneumatic retinopexy succeeded in nine cases (70%) and failed in four (30%). In this study a malignant tumor was implanted in rat livers and treated by infarction, excision, or cryodestruction. Survival and the pattern of metastases was studied in each group. Treatments for symptomatic internal hemorrhoids are many; in general, the method is designed to fit the severity of prolapse. Stool softeners work well for first- and second-degree hemorrhoids. Rubberband ligation, which is an easy and inexpensive office procedure, is used to treat second-degree hemorrhoids, and surgery is often necessary for third- and fourth-degree hemorrhoids. To determine the long-term effects of cyclocryotherapy, we conducted a follow-up with a mean of 24.9 +/- 13.9 months in 50 eyes of 46 patients with neovascular glaucoma. On final examination, intraocular pressure in 16 (32%) of the eyes was greater than 26 mm Hg and in 17 (34%), less than or equal to 25 mm Hg; 17 (34%) developed phthisis bulbi. The authors present the results of an enquiry carried out in University and regional hospitals in France and recall the interest of general anaesthesia with tracheal intubation during tonsillectomy. This makes possible, even in young children, the use of the technique of cold loop dissection. Its main advantage is in the absolute control of the airways which permits the operator to carry out careful hemostasis. Propanidide used in perfusion, allows these patients to wake up rapidly and the awakening is of good quality; this is essential in this type of operation.
