CASE: Diaphyseal nonunions after bone tumor resection present a significant reconstructive challenge. We report a 39-year-old woman who developed a diaphyseal humeral nonunion after giant cell tumor resection and reconstruction with vascularized fibula graft. She presented with symptomatic segmental bone loss and hardware failure. Two-stage Masquelet-induced membrane procedure was performed, resulting in complete union and excellent functional recovery at 12 months postoperatively.
CONCLUSION: This case highlights the potential of the Masquelet technique in reconstruction of refractory nonuni

UNLABELLED: Ankle fractures patterns in children may vary depending on the maturity of the distal tibial and fibular physis. Bimalleolar ankle fracture is an exceedingly rare fracture pattern in children and has been reported once in the current English literature. Two further adolescents with bimalleolar ankle fracture are reported. Although these fractures are rare, surgeons should be aware of these atypical fracture patterns. Herein, the underlying physiology and the mechanism of injury of ankle fractures in children are discussed.

Healing of peroneal bone fracture was studied histologically and histomorphologically in rats exposed to a 30-d tail-suspension. To fracture bones, anesthetized rats were operated on day 15 of suspension. Interposition of periosteum in joint fractures in adolescents may lead to delayed consolidation of the fracture or even malposition (varus-valgus deformities etc.) by early partial closure of the epiphyseal line. In severe cases, early arthrosis may be sequelar of inappropriate treatment of these patients. 14 cases of joint fractures with interposition of periosteum in adolescents are presented. The results of 5 operated cases are compared with 9 conservatively treated patients. The need for operative treatment is stressed.
