The objective of this 2-year, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized trial involving 48 participants was to determine if biweekly miconazole powder prevents onychomycosis recurrence. Intent-to-treat analysis found no significant differences in mycologic, clinical, or complete onychomycosis reinfection rates or time to reinfection. Limitations include small sample size and dosing regimen.

Subject of the study was spreading of mycoses in the troops based on the Kola Peninsula. Examined were the military serving on atomic submarines, maintenance crews of deactivated atomic submarines awaiting disposal, and coastal units. Spreading of skin lesions among the submariners was not same as among the coastal military. A child with epidermolysis bullosa and aplasia cutis congenita is presented. This is a very rare condition that represents an unusual manifestation of epidermolysis bullosa. Management of aplasia cutis congenita is controversial and may be conservative, surgical, or a combination of the two. In this patient, surgical treatment with split-thickness skin grafts failed, and conservative treatment using silver-sulfadiazine cream dressings was instituted.

Fungal infections of the feet are very common in some professions. This has been particularly studied in coal mine workers up to 50 p. 100 of whom were found to have dermatophytosis of the feet. The purpose of this study was to determine the clinical, epidemiological and evolutive characteristics of interdigital and plantar intertrigo of the feet among people working in a coking plant, a potash mine and a motorcar factory. Late appearance of a skin rash in Rocky Mountain spotted fever is associated with a high mortality. Our patient's rash appeared 14 days after the onset of illness, during his recovery. In endemic areas one must rely on clinical clues other than rash to raise the suspicion of Rocky Mountain spotted fever. The combination of fever, headache, myalgias, marked left shift in the differential white blood cell count, severe thrombocytopenia, and hyponatremia all help to suggest the correct diagnosis early in the course of the illness.

Reports of Bluefarb-Stewart syndrome have been infrequent. Two observations of this condition are described. Both patients are young men who presented with extensive angiomatous lesions of the feet, revealing distal arteriovenous fistulas. Surgical treatment was successful in one patient. Diagnostic criteria are discussed. As to pathogenesis the most likely hypothesis is that the arteriovenous fistulas are congenital. Bluefarb-Stewart syndrome can therefore be classified as one of the angiodysplasias.

We have reviewed the clinical and microbiological features of 113 cases of idiopathic onycholysis primarily affecting the great toenails. It is suggested that the majority of these cases were traumatic in origin. Although dermatophytes and potentially pathogenic bacteria were frequently found in the lesions, they were thought to be commensal in most cases. This is of considerable significance with regard to the selection of appropriate therapy.

BACKGROUND: There are currently no studies on epidemiology and clinical aspects of nail fungal infections in the general population of Cameroon.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Two series of patients observed at a hospital dermatological service of Yaoundé and in a volunteer service of Douala were evaluated. All the patients, regardless of the reason for the consultation, were examined by an expert dermatologist to discover signs of onychomycosis. AIM: To present our own experience with pegylated liposomal doxorubicin applied in ovarian cancer patients.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The group of 32 patients with ovarian cancer was treated with pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (LPD) in Klinika Onkologii Klinicznej Centrum Onkologii Branch Gliwice between the years 2004 and 2007.
