A local response to implementing Saving Lives in a large acute Trust.

Healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) are a high priority for health professionals. Under the Health and Social Care Act (2008), NHS organizations that fail to comply with the duties in the act could, in extreme cases, be liable for prosecution. Saving Lives (2007) is a national strategy to prevent and control HCAIs which incorporates seven high-impact interventions or care bundles. These relate to clinical procedures that must be performed correctly and in the same order for each patient, every time, to reduce the risk of a patient contracting an HCAI. Within a large Trust in the north eas

Practice behaviors as trigger factor for the onset of Musicians' Dystonia.

Musician's Dystonia (MD) is a task-specific movement disorder that results in an involuntary cramping of muscles involved in playing an instrument such as the upper limbs or the embouchure. It is usually painless and occurs in general only at the instrument. The pathophysiology of MD is not completely understood. The present study aimed at assessing differences in practice behaviors between pianists affected by MD and Healthy Controls (HC) in the years preceding the onset of the disease. Thus, we investigated to what extent practice quantity can be considered a trigger of Musicians' Dystonia.

Differences in Cortical Area Activity and Motor Imagery Vivid-Ness during Evaluation of Motor Imagery Tasks in Right and Left Hemiplegics.

The ability to develop vivid motor imagery (MI) is important for effective mental practice. Therefore, we aimed to determine differences in the MI clarity and cortical area activity between patients with right hemiplegia and left hemiplegia after stroke in an MI task. In total, 11 participants with right hemiplegia and 14 with left hemiplegia were categorized into two groups. The MI task required the flexion and extension of the finger on the paralyzed side. Considering that MI vividness changes with MI practice, we measured the MI vividness and cortical area activity during the task before an

Labia minora elongation as understood by Baganda male and female adolescents in Uganda.

Labia minora elongation is a common traditional female genital modification practice among the members of the Baganda ethnic group in Uganda. In 2002, a study carried out by the Padua Working Group on Female Genital Mutilation analysed how Baganda girls residing in Wakiso District graphically represented their experiences of labia minora elongation. In the present study, using the same methodology and in the same geographic setting 10 years later, we asked young men and women to prepare graphical representations of this rite. The purpose was to learn about how the practice is perceived and rep
