The presence of antibodies against the 20S proteasome has been correlated with diseases like multiple sclerosis (MS) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) but no definite association has been established. In order to investigate this further, we optimized an ELISA for proteasome antibodies and applied it to test a total of 324 serum and plasma samples from MS patients, SLE patients, and healthy controls. Our results yield a functional and reliable assay but no correlation between the amount of proteasome antibodies present and the development of MS or SLE could be established.

Tuberculous meningitis is a central nervous system tuberculosis caused by M. tuberculosis. It causes high mortality if delayed in diagnosis and treatment. In this comparative study, Cerebrospinal fluid from TBM and non TBM patients were analyzed by ELISA and Dot-blot for anti-tuberculous antibodies. About 70% of the TBM samples showed positivity by Dot-blot and 72.5% by ELISA. Among the non TBM controls, 2.9% showed positivity by Dot-blot and 4.4% by ELISA. Seven llamas were immunized with killed Brucella abortus S1119.3 cells and bled sequentially, resulting in 64 samples. An eighth llama was kept as a negative control. Nephelometric immunoassays were developed for human IgG, IgA, and IgM quantitation in B-lymphocytes culture media. They allowed measurement of immunoglobulin (Ig) levels over a broad range of concentrations with good accuracy and precision. The kinetics of Ig production in B-lymphocyte cultures was followed and the mean amount of each Ig was determined in six different samples after three days of culture. Local reference ranges of immunoglobulins are required for studies and clinical interpretation. In this study, serum levels of IgA, IgG, and IgM in 914 Iranian healthy adult blood donor volunteers, aged 18-55 years, were measured by nephelometry. Fluorescence polarization assay (FPA) is a homogeneous technique which was applied to the serological diagnosis of bovine brucellosis.
