Do compensatory health beliefs predict behavioural intention in a multiple health behaviour change context? Evidence in individuals with cardiovascular diseases?

Multiple health behaviour change (MHBC) represents one of the best ways to prevent reoccurrence of cardiovascular events. However, few individuals with cardiovascular diseases engage in this process. The present study examined the role of compensatory health beliefs (CHB; i.e., belief that a healthy behaviour compensates an unhealthy one) as a drag to engagement in this process. Some studies have shown that CHBs predict intention to engage in healthy behaviours, but no study has investigated CHBs in individuals who actually need to change multiple health behaviours. The goal was to better unde…

The Intention-to-Treat Effect of Bridging Treatments in the Setting of Milan Criteria-In Patients Waiting for Liver Transplantation.

In patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) meeting the Milan criteria (MC), the benefit of locoregional therapies (LRTs) in the context … SHR, 0.80; P = 0.27). In conclusion, for MC-in patients, up to 3 LRTs are beneficial for success in intention-to-treat LT patients, with a 49% to 34% reduction in failure risk compared with untreated patients. This benefit is lost if more LRTs are required. A poor response to LRT is associated with a higher risk for HCC-dependent transplant failure.

Reassessing pregnancy intention and its relation to maternal, perinatal and neonatal outcomes in a low-income setting: A cohort study.

BACKGROUND: It is unclear whether unintended pregnancies are associated with adverse outcomes. Data are predominantly from high-income countries and have methodological limitations, calling the findings into question. This research was designed to overcome these limitations and assess the relationships between pregnancy intention and miscarriage, stillbirth, low birthweight, neonatal death and postnatal depression in a low-income country. METHODS: The pregnancy intention of 4,244 pregnant women in Mchinji District, Malawi, was measured using the validated Chichewa version of the London Measur…

A Retrospective Study of Pilonidal Sinus Healing by Secondary Intention Using Negative Pressure Wound Therapy Versus Alginate or Gauze Dressings.

Pilonidal sinus (PS) disease is an inflammatory skin and subcutaneous tissue condition that presents with infection, acute abscess, chronic discharging wounds, and/or pain. Surgery with open healing by secondary intention typically is used to achieve the fastest healing time with minimal recurrence rates. A retrospective analysis was conducted of data extracted from the medical records of 73 consecutive patients who had symptomatic natal cleft PS over a 10-year period to compare use of NPWT to alginate-based/gauze daily dressing (DD) changes in terms of healing time and recurrence. Variables e…

Using a theoretical framework to determine adults' intention to vaccinate against pandemic swine flu in priority groups in the UK.

BACKGROUND: Vaccination is key in controlling influenza pandemics. Ways of identifying determinants that influence the decision to be vaccinated need to be understood in order to optimize vaccination rates. Therefore, this study aimed to predict intention to be vaccinated against swine flu in priority groups in the UK. An extension of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) provided the theoretical framework for the study. METHODS: The study population consisted of 134 adults from the UK who were in vaccination priority groups, either because they were healthcare professionals or in 'other' vac…

Kidney patients' intention to receive a deceased donor transplant: development of stage of change, decisional balance and self-efficacy measures.

In order to sustain life, patients whose kidneys fail must receive dialysis or obtain a transplant. This study reports on the development and validation of measures of Stage of Change, Decisional Balance and Self-efficacy based on the Transtheoretical Model (TTM) to assess patients' readiness to receive a deceased donor transplant. We surveyed 293 transplant-eligible kidney patients about their deceased donation readiness. Exploratory and confirmatory analyses for all measures demonstrated factor structures similar to previous application of the TTM to other health behaviors, excellent model f

Turnover intention and associated factors among employees of regional and city health regulatory bodies in Ethiopia: a cross-sectional study.

INTRODUCTION: High employee turnover has become a significant global challenge, especially within the healthcare sector. The most significant indicator of employee turnover is turnover intention, which reflects an employee's inclination to leave their current job. This issue is particularly concerning within health regulatory bodies, which are entrusted with upholding healthcare standards and ensuring the delivery of quality care. Nevertheless, research assessing turnover intention within this group remains absent in Ethiopia. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess turnover intention and assoc…

The Impact of immersion on consumers' purchase intention: A moderated mediation model mediated by trust and moderated by shopping involvement.

This study aims to investigate the psychological mechanism through which immersive experiences influence consumers' purchase intention in live-streaming commerce, drawing on the Stimulus-Organism-Response (SOR) framework. While immersion is recognized as a core feature of live-streaming commerce, the psychological pathways linking immersion to purchase intention, particularly the mediating and moderating mechanisms underlying this relationship, remain underdeveloped. To address this gap, the study constructs a moderated mediation model in which trust mediates the relationship between immersion…
