Spontaneous fistulisation of infected walled-off necrosis (WON) into the duodenum in a patient following acute necrotising pancreatitis.

Infected walled-off necrosis (WON), previously referred to by various terminologies including pancreatic abscess, is one of the well-known local complications of acute necrotising pancreatitis. Very rarely they can spontaneously rupture or fistulise into adjacent structures, leading to either further complications or resolution. More often these events lead to complications rather than resolution of the condition. We report a case of an infected WON following an episode of acute necrotising pancreatitis with spontaneous fistulisation into the duodenum resulting in a complete resolution of the

Left-sided sigmoid diverticulitis presenting as right-sided thigh abscess.

Acquired diverticular disease of the colon is very common in the North American population. Atypical presentations are usually due to complications and rarely the predominant complaint may be related to an associated fistula. Thigh abscesses due to colocutaneous fistula represent an uncommon complication of sigmoid diverticulitis. In rare cases, a thigh abscess may be the only symptom, but gas in the thigh should raise the index of suspicion for bowel pathology. We report the second known case of a left-sided sigmoid diverticulitis leading to an isolated right thigh abscess with no gastrointes

Gastrojejunocolic fistula as a complication of Billroth II gastrectomy: a case report.

Gastrojejunocolic fistula is a late, severe complication of a stomal ulcer, which develops as a result of inadequate resection of the stomach or incomplete vagotomy. It is uncommon and in our century is reported only sporadically in medical literature The authors report a case of benign gastrojejunocolic fistula, diagnosed by barium based contrast radiography, which demonstrated reflux of contrast from the transverse colon to the stomach and jejunum via a fistulous tract. Therapy of the gastrojejunal fistula is always radical and comprises en bloc resection of the fistula and revision of gastr

Concomitant cholecystoduodenal fistula and cholecystocholedochal fistula due to actinomyces.

This report describes a patient with a cholecystoduodenal fistula and cholecystocholedochal fistula who was found to have Actinomyces contained within the gallbladder upon pathologic examination. The cholecystocholedochal fistula was repaired using a flap of gallbladder over a T-tube, and the actinomycosis was successfully eradicated with 6 weeks of intravenous doxycycline followed by an additional 6 months of oral doxycycline.

["The fate" of a peri-cystic-jejunostomy in the treatment of the hydatid liver cysts].

The persistence of a hepato-jejunal fistula after 9 years from a peri-cystic-jejunostomy in the treatment of hydatid liver cysts is an amazing condition. We discover this kind of fistula during the operation for cholelithiasis. This association between fistula and a "after-hydatid" choledocholithiasis is an opportunity to discuss some pathogenic and evolutive mechanisms about both of two entities.

Biliary-colonic fistula: a case report and literature review.

We report the occurrence of common bile duct obstruction and biliary-colonic fistula after open cholecystectomy. Although it is a very unusual complication after cholecystectomy, biliary-colonic fistula should be part of the differential diagnosis for patients presenting with sepsis after open or laparoscopic cholecystectomy. After confirmation and characterization of the injury by endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and cholangiogram, assessment for undrained collections by computed tomography scan, control of sepsis and coagulopathy, and nutritional support, surgical repair was un

Ethanol injection for ablation of an intractable digestive tract fistula: report of a case.

We successfully occluded an intractable digestive tract fistula by injecting it with absolute ethanol after all other treatments failed. A 48-year-old man suffered from a complex and relapsing digestive tract fistula after curative surgery for advanced colon cancer invading the pancreas and duodenum. After conservative management by fasting, drainage, and irrigation failed, fibrin glue infusion achieved only transient occlusion. We performed surgical repair and he was discharged from hospital, at which time fistulography showed no fistula. However, 1 month later fistulography showed that the f

Fecopneumothorax and colopleural fistula - uncommon complications of Crohn's disease.

BACKGROUND: Colopleural fistula and fecopneumothorax are very rare complications of Crohn's disease. Fistula formation is frequent in Crohn's disease and occurs in approximately 33% of patients. On the other hand, fistulous communication between the pleural cavity and adjacent organs below the diaphragm is extremely rare. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe the case of 27 year-old female with colopleural fistula as a complication of Crohn's disease. The diagnosis was established with clinical exam, barium enema, chest X-ray, abdominal and chest CT exam. The treatment was surgical. CONCLUSION: Col

Ileovesical fistula caused by hepatocellular carcinoma.

Ileovesical fistula is a very rare clinical entity, the most frequent cause of which is Crohn's disease. Furthermore, it is an exceptionally rare complication of malignancies. We experienced one case of ileovesical fistula which had been caused by hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) arising from the noncirrhotic liver. A 27-year-old man was diagnosed with HCC in a noncirrhotic liver. Despite treatment with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), the disease status became more aggravated. The patient complained of dysuria, fecaluria, and intermittent lower abdominal pain. Pelvic CT scan showed a sof

[Duodeno-colecystic fistula, a rare complication of duodenal ulcer. A case report].

AIM OF THE STUDY: There are several varieties of bilioenteric fistulae. The vast majority of fistulas result from chronic cholelitiasis disease. Other relatevely common causes are chronic duodenal ulcer disease, previous instrumentation to the biliary system, chronic bowel inflammatory disease, traumatism, infections. CASE REPORT: The case of a 58-year-old patient is reported in whom one of the rare complications of longstanding duodenal ulcer, the cholecystoduodenal fistula, has occurred. Main symptoms were rapid weight loss (20 kg/3 months), abdominal pain, dyspepsia, vomiting. Perivisceral

[Renoduodenal fistula. A case report].

The fistula between kidney and duodenum is rare. It occurs mostly in case of pyonephrotic kidney. The authors report one case of renoduodenal fistula, discovered peroperatively in 41 years old man who underwent a subcapsular nephrectomy for right pyonephrosis upon pelvic lithiasis. Through a review of literature, the authors discuss diagnostic aspects of this complication.
