Brain undergoing apoptosis often results in serious dysfunction, especially when subjected to viral infection. Our previous findings revealed that Lateolabrax maculatus iridovirus (LMIV), genetically closely related to Red Sea Bream Iridovirus (RSIV), was able to invade the brain tissue of L. maculatus. The analysis of consequent brain injury may bring us explanations for the pathogenesis of LMIV infection. In the present study, viral loads in different brain segments (telencephalon, optic tectum, cerebellum, hypothalamus, medulla oblongata, optic nerve) of L. maculatus were measured by qPCR.

BACKGROUND: JC polyomavirus (JCPyV)-associated nephropathy (JCPyVAN) is a severe, but rare complication in adult renal transplant (RTx) recipients. Related data in pediatric patients are scarce.
METHODS: Based on the CERTAIN Registry, we therefore performed a multi-center, retrospective study on the JCPyV antibody status, prevalence of JCPyV replication, and its associated disease in 139 pediatric RTx recipients (mean age, 8.5 ± 5.3 years). JCPyV DNA in plasma and/or urine was measured by quantitative PCR at a median time of 3.2 (IQR, 0.3-8.1) years post-transplant.

Natalizumab greatly reduces inflammatory relapses in multiple sclerosis (MS) by blocking the integrin-mediated leukocyte traffic to the brain, but less is known about its effects on the systemic immunity. We measured 48 cytokines/chemokines in sera from 19 natalizumab-treated MS patients. BACKGROUND: Duck plague virus (DPV) can induce apoptosis in duck embryo fibroblasts (DEFs) and in infected ducks, but the molecular mechanism of DPV-induced apoptosis remains unknown.
METHODS: We first used qRT-PCR and a Caspase-Glo assay to determine whether the caspase protein family plays an important role in DPV-induced apoptosis. Then, we used an intracellular ROS detection kit and the mitochondrial probe JC-1 to respectively detect ROS levels and mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP).
