Male pseudohermaphroditism (MPH) is a disorder of sexual differentiation whereby the external genitalia are at variance with a male karyotype and the presence of testes. Abnormalities of Leydig cell function are an important cause of MPH, but postnatal age must be considered when interpreting the testosterone response when HCG stimulation is used as a diagnostic test. The incretory testicular function was tested in 21 patient with varicocele aged 19 to 39 years. In one group baseline testosterone was measured, while a second group received a single injection of 5000 IU HCG. Testosterone was studied in peripheral plasma in the spermatic vein and in testicular tissue. Baseline values after stimulation were not different from those of normal controls. A case of malignant interstitial cell tumor of the testis is reported and the literature is reviewed. Malignant interstitial cell tumors occur exclusively in adults. Gynecomastia was noted in 12% of the cases. Elevated plasma levels or increased urinary excretion of estrogen, 17-ketosteroid, or testosterone were demonstrated in 64% of the patients. Vessel invasion, which occurred in 74% of the patients, appears to be the only reliable histologic feature for predicting malignant behavior. The authors report their experience of rare non-germ-cell tumours of the testis over a period of 10 years. The criteria of benign disease, justifying testicular preservation in 5 out of 7 cases of epidermoid cysts, are defined. Four cases of Leydig cell tumours, including 3 with gynaecomastia, are described. Three cases of adenomatoid tumours with conservative surgery, 3 lymphomas, 2 mature teratomas and 2 cysts of the rete testis are also reported. The place of ultrasonography is defined and the possibility of conservative surgery is discussed in relation to a review of the recent literature.

The effect of orchiopexy performed before puberty on the testicular ultrastructure in sexually mature infertile men have been levels, as well as an analysis of spermogram and karyotype was carried out. It was found an elevation of FSH and LH, while T levels were decreased. Disturbances in the ultrastructure of all testicular cell types-germ, Sertoli and Leydig cells are related with the smooth and rough endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria as well. It is concluded that the application of orchiopexy in 8-10 years old cryptorchid boys have no curative effect on the descended testes.

The authors studied 32 biopsies of testes of patients, aged 18 to 26 with various forms of male hypogonadism: Klinefelter's syndrome--16, primary hypotrophy pogonadism with other known and unknown etiology--6, cryptorchism--1, secondary hypogonadism--4, later puberty--3. The materials were studied by the standard histological techniques. The authors report about definite structural changes with the various forms of hypogonadism, manifested in the elements of seminal tubules, Sertoli's cells, basal membrane of the ducts and Leydig's cells, situated in the interstitial spaces.

A case of a functioning interstitial-cell tumor in a 12-year-old Negro boy is reported. The patient manifested precocious puberty, with signs of sexually aggressive behavior.
