Ranunculus arvensis (R. arvensis) is a member of the Ranunculaceae family and is often used by advanced age women living in rural areas for the topical treatment of arthralgia, myalgia, hemorrhoid, and warts. Protoanemonin is a substance found in the fresh leaves of the plants from the Ranunculaceae family and leads to contact dermatitis. In this report, we present three cases that developed phytocontact dermatitis caused by the topical use of R. arvensis as an alternative treatment method for arthralgia and palmoplantar psoriasis.

After exposure to a teacher with multidrug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis, 31 children developed latent infection. Twenty-six were treated with levofloxacin and pyrazinamide. Twelve required a change in therapy secondary to adverse effects. The most common adverse effects included abdominal pain, arthralgias/myalgias and elevated transaminases. All children reported at least 1 adverse effect. Fifteen children completed treatment. All adverse effects were transient.

A previously healthy 47-year-old woman was treated for follicular lymphoma, grade III, with cyclophosphamide, adriamycin, vincristine, prednisone with rituximab (CHOP-R) followed by ibritumomab tiuxetan and rituximab. She developed a serum sickness-like illness during immunotherapy with fever, myalgias, arthralgias, and pleural and pericardial effusions. Despite anti-inflammatory therapies her symptoms persisted for 10 months before ultimate resolution. Her clinical course and literature are reviewed.

Metabolic myopathies are subdivided into disturbances of anaerobic cytoplasmic and aerobic mitochondrial metabolism. With the exception of carnitine deficiency these myopathies are based on enzymopathies. Since gene therapy is not yet available no causal therapy is possible. This paper discusses possibilities for symptomatic therapy. Good results are found with carnitine substitution. Enzymopathies can be improved by using other metabolic pathways or by addition of co-factors of the impaired pathways. This leads to a reduction of myalgia, cramps, and endurance exercise intolerance.

Rhabdomyolysis was not reported in clinical trials with Sitagliptin alone. However, several reports in the literature on rhabdomyolysis resulted from the interaction between statins and Sitagliptin. In patients with type 2 diabetes and hyperlipidemia, it is expected to co-prescribe statins and Sitagliptin. Herein, we report the case of a 64-year-old woman with rhabdomyolysis should be caused by a drug-drug interaction between Rosuvastatin and Sitagliptin. The patient denied any history of weakness or myalgia during past medical assessments.

Rhabdomyolysis is not a well-known complication in dengue fever and only a few cases are reported. We report a patient of dengue, with severe body ache and myalgia, passed reddish-brown urine with a very high creatine-phosphokinase level. He also developed oliguria, hypertension, and raised creatinine. This suggests rhabdomyolysis occurred which led to acute kidney injury. This can complicate otherwise stable patients with dengue and affect the outcome. This complication needs to be explored when a similar clinical picture is encountered.

A 49-year-old man presented with 3 months of persistent fever, cough, shortness of breath, and chest tightness. He had no response to treatment with antibiotics. He had been treated with an empiric 2-week course of steroids approximately 2 months before presentation, with mild and transient improvement. He did not use tobacco and had not experienced any weight loss, hemoptysis, arthralgia, or myalgia, and was otherwise in good health. He denied contact with anyone with pulmonary TB or other respiratory illnesses.

A 55 year old patient of COVID-19, with no known comorbidities presented with fever, myalgia and headache and at presentation had leukopenia and thrombocytopenia, however did not have any bleeding manifestations. The patient's inflammatory markers including ferritin and C-reactive protein were elevated at admission. Later in the course of illness went on to develop severe thrombocytosis and leukocytosis. We discuss the course and outcome of illness in an unusual case of COVID-19 with severe and diametrically opposite haematological abnormalities.

Chikungunya is an arboviral disease transmitted by Aedes mosquito that represents a major public health burden worldwide including India. The disease presents as sudden onset of high-grade fever, severe arthralgias, and rash. Here, we describe a case of a patient who presented with cervical lymphadenopathy, fever, and myalgia and later was diagnosed as chikungunya. Lymphadenopathy has been described before as a less common symptom of chikungunya. But this is probably, the first case of chikungunya with cervical lymphadenopathy as a presenting feature.

The pathophysiology of persistent orofacial myalgia has been the centre of much controversy. In this article we suggest a novel descriptive term; 'persistent orofacial muscle pain' (POMP) and review current evidence that supports the hypothesis that the induction of POMP involves the interplay between a peripheral nociceptive source in muscle, a faulty central nervous system component and decreased coping ability. In this context it is widely accepted that a complex interaction of variable intrinsic and extrinsic factors act to induce POMP and dysfunction.

Pyomyositis is a suppurative infection of the skeletal muscle; it mainly occurs in immunocompromised patients or, exceptionally, in immunocompetent patients in tropical or other areas. We present a 24-year-old immunocompetent lady with bilateral thigh myalgia and fever. Upon investigation, extensive multifocal bilateral fluid collections involving the extensor muscles of both thighs were demonstrated. Pus aspirate from the involved muscles proved the presence of Staphylococcus aureus. Incision and drainage of the involved muscles were performed with successful and complete recovery.

We encountered a 26-year-old Japanese woman with recurrent episodes of polymyalgia rheumatica-like symptoms associated with pregnancy. At a 13-week pregnancy, she was admitted to our outpatient clinic, complaining of myalgia on both thighs, shoulders and upper limbs. Laboratory examinations of blood yielded normal creatine kinase and mild elevation of erythrocyte sedimentation rate. After administration of oral prednisolone (10 mg/day) was begun, her symptoms were gradually resolved by 1 week. Further epidemiologic studies should be needed.

A case of colchicine-induced rhabdomyolysis is reported. A 79-year-old man with ischemic heart disease, chronic atrial fibrillation, chronic renal failure, hypothyroidism, and gout arthritis was hospitalized because of fatigue, myalgia, and leg weakness, shortly after starting treatment with colchicine. Investigation confirmed the diagnosis of rhabdomyolysis, and discontinuation of colchicine resulted in resolution of clinical and biochemical features of rhabdomylysis. Eosinophilic fasciitis (EF) is scleroderma-like disease without Raynaud's phenomenon or visceral involvement. A 9-year-old girl presented with arthralgia and myalgia which progressed to developing renal failure and overwhelming septic shock. The underlying cause was assumed to be a periodontal abscess from an upper right deciduous canine tooth. The pus from the abscess grew a toxic shock syndrome toxin 1-producing Staphylococcus aureus. This case illustrates the importance of an oral surgical review of patients presenting with features of toxic shock syndrome if the source of the infection is not immediately obvious.

Toxic shock syndrome is a life-threatening exotoxin mediated disease caused by Staphylococcus aureus, which was originally described as affecting menstruating women, but has lately been reported after surgical procedures and burns. The high mortality emphasises the importance of early diagnosis. In most cases there is a prodromal period with fever (> 38.9 degrees C), myalgia, headache, and vomiting before the onset of hypotension and multiorgan failure. We present two cases in children with minor burns, and review current recommendations for treatment.

UNLABELLED: The data of 20 patients with subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE) were evaluated according to clinical and laboratory criteria. We found the following laboratory deviations: elevated BSR, leucopenia, anti-dsDNA, anti-SSA/Ro and anti-SSB/La antibodies, positive LE cells, and elevated levels of IgE and immune complex. Aside from the characteristic skin eruptions in SCLE, the patients showed arthralgia, myalgia, and pronounced photosensitivity.
THERAPY: corticoids, chloroquine, and light protection. Regular follow-up examinations are extremely important in these patients.

Two patients with a unique aortic valvulitis required aortic valve replacement. Both were elderly women who presented with evidence of systemic disease, including fever, arthralgia, myalgia, markedly elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate, anemia, leukocytosis, hypoalbuminemia and renal insufficiency, in addition to progressive subacute aortic insufficiency.
