Exploratory Study of rTMS Neuromodulation Effects on Electrocortical Functional Measures of Performance in an Oddball Test and Behavioral Symptoms in Autism.

There is no accepted pathology to autism spectrum disorders (ASD) but research suggests the presence of an altered excitatory/inhibitory (E/I) bias in the cerebral cortex. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) offers a non-invasive means of modulating the E/I cortical bias with little in terms of side effects. In this study, 124 high functioning ASD children (IQ > 80, <18 years of age) were recruited and assigned using randomization to either a waitlist group or one of three different number of weekly rTMS sessions (i.e., 6, 12, and 18). TMS consisted of trains of 1.0 Hz frequenc

Back to the Future of qEEG: Lifespan Normative Modeling of Spectral Ratios and Functional Indices with Potential Applications to Therapeutic Monitoring.

Quantitative EEG (qEEG) provides objective, millisecond-resolution measures of brain dynamics. Despite decades of methodological advances, clinically relevant derived indices-spectral power ratios, cognitive-emotional state markers, and physiological parameters-are typically reported as raw values without the normative context required for individualized clinical inference. To develop the first systematic age-dependent normative models for this family of derived qEEG indices using a multinational database, enabling probabilistic Z-score interpretation at the individual level with potential app

Age-Dependent Entropic Features During Propofol Anesthesia in Developing Brain.

BACKGROUND: Precise monitoring of anesthetic depth in children receiving propofol anesthesia is crucial. Commercial depth of anesthesia monitoring devices do not account for age-related changes in brain states and provide misleading information regarding the actual depth in young children. Entropy analysis, a typical complexity methodology, has been demonstrated to be a simple and robust tool for monitoring consciousness levels during anesthesia in adults. The validity of entropic measures for depth of anesthesia monitoring in children receiving general anesthesia remains largely unexplored. T

PURPOSE: Facial nerve injury is a potential complication in intradural middle cranial fossa surgery, particularly because of dehiscence of the geniculate ganglion, exposing the nerve to thermal injury. Identifying the geniculate ganglion during surgical approaches is crucial for preserving facial nerve function. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of transdural stimulation in identifying the geniculate ganglion during intradural approaches to improve the preservation of facial nerve function. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis on patients who underwent surger
