We use molecular mechanics and DFT calculations to analyze the particular electronic behavior of a giant nanoball. This nanoball is a self-assembled M12L24 nanoball; with M equal to Pd+2; Cr; and Mo. These systems present an extraordinarily large cavity; similar to biological giant hollow structures. Consequently, it is possible to use these nanoballs to trap smaller species that may also become activated. A hybrid electrolysis and Pd-catalytic oxidation process is evaluated for degradation of trichloroethylene (TCE) in groundwater. We report 11 patients seen between 1991 and 1994 with oral lichenoid lesions (OLL). In 10 cases, there was contact with dental amalgam fillings, and in patient no. 10 with both amalgam restorations and a gold crown. The last patient had, in addition to her OLL, lichen planus of the skin and genital mucosa. A number of salophen ligands and their Zn, Ni, and Pd complexes were synthesized by an efficient one-pot mechanosynthesis protocol. The reaction products were characterized by means of complementary solid-state techniques, i.e., powder X-ray diffraction, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and solid-state NMR spectroscopy. Four new crystal structures of metal salophen complexes as DMSO solvates are here reported. The described simple and relatively fast (about 1 h for all derivatives) procedure is a good alternative to classical methods performed in organic solvents.
