Proctoring as advanced surgical learning: the proctor's perspective in robotic surgery.

Robotic proctoring is often considered a safety and training mechanism for surgeons adopting robotic platforms. While the benefits of proctoring for adopting surgeons have been described across specialties, the educational impact of proctoring on the proctor remains largely unexplored. This Perspective examines robotic proctoring from the proctor's vantage point and argues that proctoring represents a unique professional privilege and a powerful form of advanced surgical learning, offering rare access to the collective experience of surgeons and the accumulated influence of their mentors, inst

The impact of disasters due to natural hazards on human infectious disease risk: a narrative review and conceptual framework.

CONTEXT: Disasters caused by natural hazards increase infectious diseases through water-borne, vector-borne and human-to-human transmission. In addition, human injury, stress and trauma following disasters increase susceptibility to infection. These factors provide the ideal conditions for disease outbreaks. OBJECTIVE: To develop a conceptual framework and conduct a narrative review on the key determinants of infectious disease risk during disasters and consider mitigation measures to prevent such outbreaks. METHODS: An adapted conceptual framework was developed, followed by systematic searc

Evaluating Tinnitus in Children: A Comprehensive Review of Diagnostic Methods and Treatment Strategies.

Tinnitus in children represents a clinically significant condition with potential influence on auditory maturation, emotional stability, concentration, sleep quality, and academic performance. Limited symptom expression, developmental variability, and diverse underlying etiologies often delay recognition, creating the need for clearer diagnostic pathways. The objective of this narrative review is to consolidate contemporary understanding of diagnostic methods and treatment strategies applicable to pediatric tinnitus, with emphasis on developmental and neurocognitive factors that shape symptom

The HIV response at Resilience During an Inflection Point: Resilience, Innovation and Equity.

World AIDS Day 2025 arrives at a critical inflection point for the global HIV response. Four decades of scientific progress have transformed HIV into a manageable chronic condition, yet funding contractions, widening inequities, and persistent stigma threaten progress towards epidemic control. This review of the Special Collection highlights emerging challenges and opportunities across prevention, care, and social contexts, with a focus on resilience. Digital innovation, accelerated by COVID-19, is reshaping HIV service delivery through telehealth, remote engagement, and online research platfo

Assessing Parents' Perceptions of Contraception for Their Adolescents in Communities of Color: A scoping review.

Reproductive health disparities disproportionately affect adolescents of color in the United States, particularly in contraceptive access, utilization, and knowledge. Because parents strongly shape adolescents' contraceptive behaviors, understanding their perspectives is essential for addressing inequities. This scoping review synthesized evidence on parental attitudes toward adolescent contraception in racially and ethnically diverse communities to inform culturally responsive interventions. Following PRISMA-ScR guidelines, seven databases were systematically searched for U.S.-based, peer rev

Taking a spiritual history in the oral oncology setting.

BACKGROUND: Spirituality is recognized as a dimension of health and is increasingly incorporated into supportive cancer care settings. Patients with oral cancer frequently experience profound functional, psychosocial, and existential challenges associated with their diagnosis and treatment, often leading to unmet spiritual needs. Taking a spiritual history provides an approach to identify beliefs, values, and coping resources that influence quality of life and clinical decision-making. OBJECTIVE: To synthesize evidence-based strategies for assessing patients' spirituality within oral oncology

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs): a cross-sectional analysis of the psychological and biological mechanisms underlying intestinal and extra-intestinal symptoms-GastroPsy study protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) are chronic conditions characterised by intestinal and systemic inflammation, often associated with significant psychological distress. Emerging evidence highlights a bidirectional relationship between inflammation and psychological factors, mediated by the gut-brain axis. Psychological distress may not only result from chronic inflammation but also contribute to symptom persistence and disease exacerbation. Despite this, clinical management of IBD primarily focuses on controlling inflammation, often overlooking psychological factors that may in

Pathogenesis of Inflammation in Skin Disease: From Molecular Mechanisms to Pathology.

Many skin diseases begin with inflammatory changes on a molecular level. To develop a more thorough understanding of skin pathology and to identify new targets for therapeutic advancements, molecular mechanisms of inflammation in the context of skin disease should be studied. Current research efforts to better understand skin disease have focused on examining the role of molecular processes at several stages of the inflammatory response such as the dysregulation of innate immunity sensors, disruption of both transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation, and crosstalk between immune and

Pain Assessment in Cattle by Use of Numerical Rating and Visual Analogue Scales-A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Subjective pain assessment in cattle is contingent upon the observer's experience and attitude. Studies of pain assessment in cattle by veterinarians and farmers using different pain scales have been published. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to describe and compare the pain scores given by veterinarians and producers for different procedures and conditions using either a NRS or VAS. The literature search was conducted with PubMed (MEDLINE) and Agricola, using defined search terms (e.g., peer-reviewed). A total of 842 articles were identified. After screening of duplicates, abst
