Normal feline reproduction: The tom.

PRACTICAL RELEVANCE: Understanding the normal reproductive anatomy and physiology of the male cat is important for successful breeding. Veterinarians may be called in to troubleshoot when fertility and pregnancy rates decrease in a cattery. By understanding the normal physical parameters, as well as breeding behavior, the veterinarian is better equipped to assess the infertility issue. Also, clients are increasingly requesting breeding soundness examinations prior to mating or purchase. Semen collection is more difficult in the cat than in the dog but can still be accomplished in a clinical se

Early-Pregnancy Dydrogesterone Supplementation Mimicking Luteal-Phase Support in ART Patients Did Not Provoke Major Reproductive Disorders in Pregnant Mice and Their Progeny.

Progestogens are frequently administered during early pregnancy to patients undergoing assisted reproductive techniques (ART) to overcome progesterone deficits following ART procedures. Orally administered dydrogesterone (DG) shows equal efficacy to other progestogens with a higher level of patient compliance. However, potential harmful effects of DG on critical pregnancy processes and on the health of the progeny are not yet completely ruled out. We treated pregnant mice with DG in the mode, duration, and doses comparable to ART patients. Subsequently, we studied DG effects on embryo implanta…

Novel reproductive technologies to prevent mitochondrial disease.

BACKGROUND: The use of nuclear transfer (NT) has been proposed as a novel reproductive treatment to overcome the transmission of maternally- … e use of these IVF-based technologies. Scientific evidence to support the use of NT and other novel reproductive techniques for infertility is currently lacking. WIDER IMPLICATIONS: It is mandatory that any new ART treatments are first adequately assessed in both animal and human models before the cautious implementation of these new therapeutic approaches is clinically …

Familial DMRT1-related non-obstructive azoospermia: a case report.

PURPOSE: To report an exceptional case of male-to-male transmission of genetically based non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) and varicocele through a naturally obtained pregnancy. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: A father and his son were both diagnosed with NOA after centrifugation and varicocele. The father has no other clinical concerns apart from infertility, detected after many attempts of having another child, but given his urological situation (bilateral varicocele and NOA) assisted reproductive techniques were discouraged. After genetic counseling, several genetic-chromosomal analyses were carried…

Myomectomy: a review of surgical technique.

Fibroids are common amongst women of reproductive age. In women wanting to retain their fertility and/or uterus open myomectomy remains the most widely performed procedure. It is important to carefully counsel the patient about the pros and cons of surgery versus expectant management. Meticulous pre-operative evaluation and preparation will help ensure the procedure goes smoothly. Attention to the operating technique used is paramount in ensuring patient safety and surgical peace of mind. This review addresses the important aspects of open myomectomy including operative technique.

Light and Electron Microscope Observations of the Male Reproductive Organs of Adult Julodis ehrenbergii Laporte (Coleoptera, Buprestidae).

This paper was the first preliminary description of the male reproductive organs in Julodis ehrenbergii Laporte (Coleoptera, Buprestidae) using light and scanning electron microscope techniques. The structure has a couple of testes, a couple of vasa deferentia, a couple of accessory glands, a couple of spermatophoral glands, and a single ejaculatory duct opening in the aedeagus. Each testis is made up of many elongated testicular follicles. Our histological observation showed cysts at different stages of development in the testicular follicles. In other words, spermatocytes, spermatids, and sp

Prenatal diagnosis of a 46,XY karyotype female fetus with an SRY-associated gonadal dysgenesis, conceived through an intracytoplasmic sperm injection: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Permanent progression of paternal age and development of reproductive medicine lead to increase in number of children conceived with assisted reproductive techniques (ART). Although it is uncertain if ARTs have direct influence on offspring health, advanced paternal age, associated comorbidities and reduced fertility possess significant risks of genetic disorders to the offspring. With a broad implementation of a non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT), more cases of genetic disorders, including sex discordance are revealed. Among biological causes of sex discordance are disorders of …

Confrontment and solution to gonadotropin resistance and low oocyte retrieval in in vitro fertilization for type I BPES: a case series with review of literature.

BACKGROUND: FOXL2 mutations in human cause Blepharophimosis, ptosis, and epicanthus inversus syndrome (BPES). While type II BPES solely features eyelid abnormality, type I BPES involves not only eyelid but also ovary, leading to primary ovarian insufficiency (POI) and female infertility. Current mainstream reproductive option for type I BPES is embryo or oocyte donation. Attempts on assisted reproductive technology (ART) aiming biological parenthood in this population were sparse and mostly unsuccessful. CASE PRESENTATION: Two Chinese type I BPES patients with low anti-müllerian hormone (AMH)

Testicular dysgenesis syndrome.

In the Western world fertility rates are low and infertility is a major health problem. Unofficial statistics from Denmark reveal that about 6% of all Danish children are now born after assisted reproduction techniques, including in vitro fertilization, intracytoplasmic sperm injection, donor insemination or homologous insemination. However, there are no retrospective data on trends in fecundity (ability to conceive). We, and others, have focused on some aspects of adverse trends in male reproductive health such as the rising incidence of testicular cancer, low and probably declining semen qua

AI-quantum framework for accurate infertility risk classification in PCOS patients using EHR data.

INTRODUCTION: Infertility affects nearly one in six couples worldwide, with approximately half of these cases associated with female-related factors. Among women, ovulatory disorders represent a major cause of infertility, with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) being one of the most prevalent conditions. Traditional diagnostic methods, including ultrasound imaging, hormone analysis, and menstrual history evaluation, often fail to fully utilize comprehensive patient health records. These records contain important clinical indicators such as body mass index (BMI), Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) lev

BACKGROUND: Infertility is a rising global issue and when compared to men, women face greater stigma and consequences of infertility in developing countries. Women are prescribed exercises as a part of lifestyle intervention programs prior to artificial reproductive techniques (ART) to lose weight, to improve their chances of conception. However, adherence to exercise programs has been observed to be poor and the reasons for this remain less explored. OBJECTIVE: To explore the perceptions and practices about performing exercises among women with infertility. METHODS: A qualitative explorativ…
