Adult intussusception is clinically rare. We report a case with colon intussusception caused by a pedunculated polyp of the sigmoid colon in a 54-year-old male. Abdominal ultrasonographic screening for hematochezia showed intussusception in the sigmoid colon, demonstrating a multiple concentric ring sign and a mobile leading colon polyp. Histological examination of a biopsy specimen of the polyp revealed adenoma. This report suggests that ultrasound imaging is a modality of choice for differential diagnosis of intestinal intussusception with hematochezia in adults.

A 42-year-old-women with sigmoid colon adenocarcinoma was found to have isolated prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT 102.5 s, normal range 24-36 s) preoperatively. We report a patient presenting with a left psoas abscess causing necrotizing fasciitis of the upper thigh. The patient underwent exploration of the left thigh through a medial approach, confirming necrotizing fasciitis of the adductor compartment and the femoral triangle. The infective process also involved the left psoas. This was explored retroperitoneally through a left pararectal laparotomy incision. Further exploration revealed a carcinomatous ulcer of the sigmoid colon. Despite active resuscitation, antibiotic therapy, and further debridement, the patient died three days after admission.

Colostomy is the traditional treatment for acute obstruction of the sigmoid colon. This entails two or three surgical procedures in a high-risk group of patients. We report a case of a left psoas abscess resulting from a perforating carcinoma of the sigmoid colon. The chief complaints were edema of the left leg and pain in the left thigh. Single and double contrast barium-enema film demonstrated an extrinsic inflammatory mass distorting the sigmoid colon. A preoperative diagnosis of sigmoid carcinoma was not made on these examinations, nor on flexible colonoscopy. Carcinoma of the colon should be considered as a cause of an unexplained psoas abscess.

A series of 1 139 patients with invasive carcinoma of the cervix uteri who received a complete course of treatment by means of external irradiation followed by intracavitary curietherapy was evaluated in order to assess the results of treatment and, in particular, the radiation complications induced. RATIONALE: Hartmann procedure (HP) often causes severe postoperative adhesions in the pelvic space; therefore, the reversal of Hartmann procedure (RHP) is a challenging surgery. A new spray-type antiadhesion agent, AdSpray, has been reported to be useful in three-dimensional fields such as the liver. However, there are no reports of its use in HP. We present a case of a male patient with rectal cancer who underwent laparoscopic HP with AdSpray to prevent postoperative adhesions.
