On-flow ReactIR and (1)H NMR reaction monitoring, coupled with in situ intermediate characterization, was used to aid in the mechanistic elucidation of the N-chlorosuccinimide mediated transformation of an α-thioamide. Multiple intermediates in this reaction cascade are identified and characterized, and in particular, spectroscopic evidence for the intermediacy of the chlorosulfonium ion in the chlorination of α-thioamides is provided. This manuscript describes a global regression analysis of near-infrared (NIR, 900-1300 nm) transient absorptions (TA) of colloidal CdSe quantum dots (QDs) photoexcited to their first (1S(e)1S(3/2)) excitonic state. A novel cyanide analyzer based on sensitive cobinamide chemistry relies on simultaneous reagent and sample injection and detection in a 50 cm liquid core waveguide (LCW) flow cell illuminated by a white light emitting diode. We report on the synthesis of gold nanoparticles (Au-NP) stabilized by a layer of mercapto and/or hydroxyl bola palmitic acid-tetrabutyl ammonium salts (TBAOH) which form nanosomes in water. Mixing both bola fatty acids in water in various proportions allowed to tune the nanoparticle diameter from 1 to 10 nm using NaBH(4) as a reductor. Energetics and vibrational analysis study of six isomers of methyl salicylate in their singlet ground state and first excited triple state is put forward in this work at the density functional theory level and large basis sets. An azo-based dye (I) was designed for the detection of cyanide by utilizing a new indirect method. In the presence of Cu(II), compound I could give rise to visible red-to-yellow color change. The resultant yellow solution could change to red immediately upon the addition of trace cyanide, with the detection limit of 0.15 ppm, but no changes were observed in the presence of other anions, including Cl(-), I(-), IO(3)(-), SO(4)(2-), NO(2)(-), Br(-), H(2)PO(4)(-), F(-), SCN(-), HSO(4)(-), ClO(4)(-) and CN(-), making compound I a selective and sensitive cyanide chemosensor.

Two accurate, precise, rapid and economical methods viz. Absorption correction method and Dual wavelength method were developed for the estimation of Cefixime (CEF) and Erdosteine (ERDO) in capsule dosage form. In both the methods linearity was observed in the concentration range of 2-25 microg/ml for Cefixime and 3-37.5 microg/ml for Erdosteine. The results of the analysis have been validated statistically and by recovery studies. Amyloid forming proteins have been implicated in many human diseases. The kinetics of amyloid fiber formation are of particular interest because evidence points to intermediate folding structures as potential cytotoxic species. The standard methods for monitoring the kinetics are to use fluorescence or circular dichroism spectroscopy, which do not uniquely resolve secondary structures. In this work, we use a new technology for rapidly scanning 2D-IR spectra that allows us to follow the fiber formation kinetics of the human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP) that is involved in type II diabetes.

The interaction between the electron donor o-phenylenediamine (o-phendn) and the pi-acceptor tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) has been investigated spectrophotometrically in dichloromethane at 25 degrees C. A novel cyclic octapeptide carrying a fullerene unit and poly(ethylene glycol) at the side chain (cyclo8-C 60 + PEG) was synthesized, and its monolayer formation at the air/water interface and on a substrate was studied. Surface pressure-area per molecule isotherms indicated that cyclo8-C 60 + PEG formed a stable monolayer at the air/water interface. We described, for the first time, the metal-enhanced fluorescence from the CdTe nanocrystals spin coated on silver island films (SIFs). CdTe nanocrystals show approximately 5-fold increase in fluorescence intensity, 3-fold decrease in lifetimes, and reduction in blinking on SIF surfaces that can be observed by ensemble and single-molecule fluorescence studies. We report efficient polymer photodiodes fabricated on flexible polyethyleneterephthalate (PET) substrates. This paper describes a method for the determination of cyanide using in-capillary enzymatic reaction with rhodanese. Poorly absorbing cyanide is in rhodanese reaction transformed into highly absorbing thiocyanate that is further separated by capillary electrophoresis (CE) and determined spectrophotometrically at 200 nm. The characteristic of occurrence selenium content in gallstones from smoking and no smoking people living in southern Poland is presented in the work. The subject of the research were gallstones, gained intra-operatively from 146 women (49 smoking, 97 no smoking women) and 24 men (11 smoking, 13 no smoking men). The content of selenium was determined using atomic emission spectroscopy with inductive couple plasma (ICP-AES). The influence of smoking to women and men describes the degree of elimination selenium from them organism by use of gallstones in detoxification process.

Effect of five cyclic third components, cyclohexane, methylcyclohexane, perfluorocyclohexane, perfluoromethylcyclohexane and adamantane, on cyclodextrin-induced room-temperature phosphorescence (CD-RTP) of 1-bromonaphthalene is studied. It is found that these five compounds can induce intensive RTP, and the enhancement order is as follows: cyclohexane>adamantane>methylcyclohexane>perfluorocyclohexane>perfluoromethylcyclohexane. Dependence of RTP intensity on temperature of these systems shows the potential application in developing optical thermometer.
