On poverty and trauma: associations between neighbourhood socioeconomic deprivation, post-traumatic stress disorder severity and treatment response.

Aims: To determine if neighbourhood socioeconomic deprivation is associated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) severity and psychological treatment response. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study based on the analysis of electronic health records for N = 2064 patients treated for PTSD across 16 psychological therapy services in England. The Revised Impact of Events Scale (IES-R) scale was used to measure PTSD severity and associations were examined with the neighbourhood-level index of multiple deprivation (IMD) using non-parametric correlations and multilevel modelling. Results

Use of Wearable Sleep Data in the Treatment of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder: Insights From Subject Matter Experts.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic sleep challenges are highly prevalent among individuals with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Current treatment decisions rely heavily on subjective self-reports, which can lead to suboptimal targeting of treatment, poor outcomes, and treatment dropout. This study aimed to gather input from subject matter experts (SMEs) regarding the use of wearable sleep data in the treatment of PTSD-related sleep challenges and to determine the feasibility and potential impact of integrating objective sleep data into clinical practice. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A Qualtrics survey wa

Aberrations in peripheral blood interleukin-6 levels in post-traumatic stress disorder: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a complex psychiatric condition that occurs in individuals after experiencing or witnessing a terrifying event. Although numerous studies have explored the relationship between immune activation and PTSD, the results regarding the association between PTSD and interleukin-6 (IL-6) remain inconsistent. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to clarify the association between peripheral blood IL-6 and PTSD, as well as to explore the potential factors that may affect this association. METHOD: We conducted a comprehensive literature search u

A Systematic Review of the Bidirectional Relationship Between Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and the Development of Type 2 Diabetes.

Emerging evidence suggests a bidirectional relationship between post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and type 2 diabetes (T2D), though the underlying mechanisms and population-specific risks remain unclear. This systematic review synthesizes current research on the PTSD-T2D link, focusing on biological pathways, behavioral mediators, and demographic disparities. Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, we conducted a comprehensive search across PubMed/Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), Excerpta Medica

Post-traumatic stress disorder and body satisfaction among patients at Ruhigita clinic, Bukavu (DRC): an observational study.

BACKGROUND: Over the past two decades, armed conflicts have intensified globally, with Africa disproportionately affected. Since January 2025, renewed violence by the March 23 Movement (M23) in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has generated widespread trauma, displacement, and psychological distress. Beyond emotional suffering, trauma has been linked to altered body perception and reduced body satisfaction, particularly among women survivors of violence, adding further complexity to the psychological burden. OBJECTIVES: This study assessed the prevalence of post-traumatic stress dis

Chronicity of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Symptoms Following Traumatic Brain Injury: A Comparison of Special Operators and Conventional Forces.

BACKGROUND: Special Operations Forces (SOF) have become the solution to many of the United States military challenges due to their ability to conduct time sensitive, clandestine, and high-risk missions. Historically, SOF were assumed to be resilient to the psychological sequelae of war, including posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, the objective burden of PTSD in SOF, particularly after traumatic brain injury (TBI), remains unknown. This study compared average PTSD symptoms over time between SOF and Conventional Forces (CF) who had sustained a TBI. METHODS: This prospective cohort

Interindividual and sex differences in resilience and vulnerability to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD): insights from animal models.

Stress triggers many responses including behavioral strategies to cope with the environment and to maintain homeostasis. Notably, the experience of stressful events is highly subjective. In fact, in susceptible individuals, primary adaptation responses can fail leading to maladaptive mechanisms and to the subsequent development of stress-related disorders (e.g., post-traumatic stress disorder; PTSD). However, the mechanisms underlying interindividual variability in stress adaptation are still to be elucidated. Animal models are widely recognized as essential scientific tools to understand the

Disgust and Other Negative Emotions in the Relationship between Mental Contamination and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Mental contamination (MC) refers to feelings of internal filthiness associated with contamination obsessions. Ego-dystonic memories and thoughts can trigger MC, although it can also be activated by trauma, which is associated with the onset of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Research shows that MC, negative emotions and PTSD can occur simultaneously. Despite considerable interest from researchers and clinicians, to the best of our knowledge, no systematic review has been carried out on the relationship between disgust and other negative emotions with MC and PTSD. Therefore,

Increasing Value and Reducing Waste of Research on Neurofeedback Effects in Post-traumatic Stress Disorder: A State-of-the-Art-Review.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is often considered challenging to treat due to factors that contribute to its complexity. In the last decade, more attention has been paid to non-pharmacological or non-psychological therapies for PTSD, including neurofeedback (NFB). NFB is a promising non-invasive technique targeting specific brainwave patterns associated with psychiatric symptomatology. By learning to regulate brain activity in a closed-loop paradigm, individuals can improve their functionality while reducing symptom severity. However, owing to its lax regulation and heterogeneous legal

The Search for Diagnostic Criteria to Divide the Wistar Rat Population into Phenotypes during Modeling of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

The levels of circulating hormones (corticosterone, testosterone, and leptin) and interleukins were studied in sexually mature male Wistar rats against the background of post-traumatic stress disorder (predator threat stress). It was found that in addition to the previously used anxiety index determined by animal behavior, the population of stressed individuals can be divided into stress-resistant and stress-sensitive phenotypes by the level of leptin and the index of anabolism (testosterone/corticosterone ratio). For the first time, it was determined that in stress-resistant rats, the levels

Veterans with chronic pain: Examining gender differences in pain type, overlap, and the impact of post-traumatic stress disorder.

BACKGROUND: Women are more likely to experience multiple overlapping pain conditions (MOPCs) relative to men. Post-traumatic stress disorder can negatively impact the severity and trajectory of chronic pain and its treatment. Specific associations between gender, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and MOPCs require further examination. METHODS: A cohort of all Veterans in 2021 who met criteria for one or more of 12 chronic pain types was created using national Veterans Health Administration administrative data. MOPCs were defined as the number of pain types for which each patient met crit
