Effect of Conventional Filler, Short Fiber-reinforced, and Polyethylene Woven Fiber-reinforced Composite on the Fracture Toughness of Extracted Premolar Teeth.

AIM: To compare the fracture strength of severely weakened endodontically treated premolars restored with conventional filler composite (CFC), short fiber-reinforced composite (SRFC), and polyethylene woven fiber-reinforced composite (PWFRC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty extracted maxillary premolars were endodontically treated and randomly allocated into four groups (n = 11): Group I as SRFC, group II as SRFC + CFC, group III as CFC, group IV as PWFRC + CFC. The palatal cusp was removed, and the buccal wall was preserved at a specific thickness. For groups I, II, and III, the palatal canals

Detection of vertical root fractures in intact and endodontically treated premolar teeth by designing a probabilistic neural network: an ex vivo study.

OBJECTIVES: Detection of vertical root fractures (VRFs) in their initial stages is a crucial issue, which prevents the propagation of injury to the adjacent supporting structures. Designing a suitable neural network-based model could be a useful method to diagnose the VRFs. The aim of this study was to design a probabilistic neural network (PNN) to diagnose the VRFs in intact and endodontically treated teeth of periapical and CBCT radiographs. Also, we have compared the efficacy of these two imaging techniques in the detection of VRFs. METHODS: A total of 240 radiographs of teeth (120 radiogr

Essix restoration: a novel approach for transitional teeth replacement.

Loss of teeth is a distressing situation. The patient may cultivate feeling of loss of an organ on loss of teeth. Especially when anterior teeth are lost appearance of the patient is compromised with altered pronunciation. This is a really embarrassing situation for people working as news readers, social workers, marketing executives, theatre artists or persons whose presentation in front of people is important as part of their work. Replacement of missing teeth immediately after loss is not possible always due to local and systemic physiological factors, age, pathological factors and unfavour

An investigation into the relationship between mandibular third molars and angle fractures in Nigerians.

We examined the relationship between the presence or absence of mandibular third molars and angle fractures in Nigerians between January 1976 and July 1997. Information was obtained from patients' case records and radiographs.A total of 490 patients were seen during the study period, 408 of whom (83%) had their third molars present, and 76 of whom had angle fractures. Road traffic accidents (n =304, 62%) were the main cause of the fractures. Of these, 44 (14%) had angle fractures compared with 14/75 (19%) patients in whom the mechanism of injury was a fight or assault.Sixty-five of the 408 pat

Traumatic injuries to permanent incisors: a case report.

A case report involving traumatized maxillary incisors is presented. The right central and lateral incisors were avulsed by direct trauma and were not found. The left central incisor was luxated and the left lateral incisor was fractured at the coronal portion. Placement of implant fixtures was selected as treatment to prevent resorption of alveolar bone and to maintain the integrity of intact adjacent teeth. The right incisors were replaced with two osseointegrated implants. The left central incisor was endodontically treated and a cast post and core was bonded into the root canal. All three

Comparative Study on Interface Fracture of 4th Generation 3-Steps Adhesive and 7th Generation Universal Adhesive.

The purpose of this paper is to compare the fracture behavior of interfaces obtained using fourth-generation and universal dental adhesives. The study relies on optic and SEM to evaluate the dentin-adhesive-restoration material interface of the samples and also on FEA simulation of fracture behavior. Specimen fabrication relied on 20 extracted teeth, in which class I cavities were created according to a protocol established based on the rules of minimally invasive therapy. For the direct adhesive technique, the adhesives used were: three-step All Bond, three-batch A and one-step Clearfil Unive

A Two-Visit Pulpotomy Approach for the Management of Uncontrolled Bleeding in a Crown-Root Fractured Immature Incisor: A Case Report.

Background/Objective: The present case demonstrates the successful preservation of a severely inflamed dental pulp despite uncontrolled bleeding occurring during pulpotomy. This novel therapeutic approach was developed when a 7-year-old boy presented for endodontic treatment one week after sustaining a crown-root fracture in an immature incisor. The tooth exhibited slight hypersensitivity to cold testing, with no tenderness to percussion or palpation. An exposed pulp was present; however, when he could avoid contact with the exposed pulp tissue, the patient reported no symptoms. Methods: The c

Minimally Invasive Endodontic Treatment through the Labial/Buccal Cervical Approach - Protocol and Case Series.

INTRODUCTION: Traditional access cavity preparation involves removing the roof of the pulp chamber and smoothing the dentin bulges at the root canal orifice, thereby creating straight-line access. However, this may damage more healthy dental tissue and reduce the tooth's fracture resistance. This case series presents a novel minimally invasive endodontic protocol for 1 maxillary canine and 4 mandibular premolars, which required root canal therapy, due to labial/buccal cervical decay that caused pulpitis or periapical periodontitis. METHODS: Our treatment protocol includes the following steps:

The Effect of Ferrule/Crown Ratio and Post Length on the Applied Stress and Strain Distribution to the Endodontically Treated Maxillary Central Teeth: A Finite Element Analysis.

Objectives: One of the most common methods used for the reconstruction of endodontically treated teeth is post and core and crown. Various factors such as the remaining tissue above the cutting margin (ferrule) affect the fracture resistance of teeth restored with post and core and crown. This study aimed to investigate the effect of ferrule/crown ratio (FCR) on the strength of maxillary anterior central teeth using finite element analysis. Materials and Methods: A 3D scan of a central incisor was obtained, and the data were transferred to Mimics software. Then, a 3D model of the tooth was des

Mineral trioxide aggregate as an alternative treatment for intruded permanent teeth with root resorption and incomplete apex formation.

A case of extensive crown fracture associated with intrusion of the permanent maxillary central incisors in an 8-year-old boy is reported. The treatment of both injured teeth included attempts of apexification and arrest of root resorption with calcium hydroxide. After 8 months of the trauma, there was no calcified barrier formation in the apex. Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) was then used as a filling material. At 15-month follow up, the teeth were asymptomatic and correctly sealed, the external inflammatory root resorption had stopped, and the radiolucent image had disappeared, which meant

Expert consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of cemental tear.

Cemental tear is a rare and indetectable condition unless obvious clinical signs present with the involvement of surrounding periodontal and periapical tissues. Due to its clinical manifestations similar to common dental issues, such as vertical root fracture, primary endodontic diseases, and periodontal diseases, as well as the low awareness of cemental tear for clinicians, misdiagnosis often occurs. The critical principle for cemental tear treatment is to remove torn fragments, and overlooking fragments leads to futile therapy, which could deteriorate the conditions of the affected teeth. Th
