This report describes a 30-year-old woman with a history of prostitution and "crack" cocaine use during pregnancy. After an incomplete abortion at 11 weeks' gestation, a suction dilatation and curettage of uterine contents was done. Bejel or nonvenereal syphilis is a treponemal infection that is still endemic in many parts of the world including Saudi Arabia. The authors have examined 17 patients with clinical findings consistent with bejel. All patients had positive serologic tests for bejel. Possible activity of thiamphenicol on Treponema pallidum during single-dose treatment of gonococcal infection with 10 tablets of 0.250 mg each was investigated using a new, more accurate method. Cutaneous ulcers in the tropics are a painful and debilitating condition that anchors people into poverty. In rural regions of the South Pacific, infectious cutaneous ulcers are caused mainly by bacteria, including Treponema pallidum pertenue (yaws), Haemophilus ducreyi, and polymicrobial ulcers. Erythematous scaly papules on the palms and soles are a common manifestation of secondary syphilis. We report a case of 19-year-old male who presented with erythematous, scaly, psoriasiform lesions over the palms and glans penis.
