Analysis of 267 consecutive cases of acute lymphoblastic leukemias (ALL) showed that 67 (25%) of cases were of T cell lineage and that 21/67 (31%) expressed the CD3 antigen. Of 13 CD3+ T-ALLs, 7 expressed gamma delta and 6 alpha beta. Comparison of these 2 groups showed differences in clinical and immunophenotypic parameters. The patterns of rearrangement of TCR gamma and TCR delta genes and their junctional nucleotide sequences also differed between the 2 groups. Further analysis of these patients may allow the distinction of subpopulations of ALL which merit altered management.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: T cells mediate the development of inflammation in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). We investigated the effects of an antibody against CD3 called otelixizumab, which induces immune tolerance, in intestinal mucosa samples from patients.
METHODS: Intestinal tissues were isolated from patients undergoing routine endoscopy or from patients undergoing intestinal surgery for colon cancer or IBD; healthy surrounding tissues were collected as controls. Isolated lamina propria mononuclear cells (LPMCs) and mucosal tissue explants were incubated with otelixizumab for 24 or 48 hours.

We describe a case of T-cell large granular lymphocyte (LGL) leukaemia that transformed into a large-cell T-cell lymphoma 11 years from diagnosis. A 29-year-old asymptomatic female presented in 1989 with lymphocytosis, neutropenia and mild bone marrow infiltration.
