Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) is a heterogeneous syndrome which is usually characterized by urinary frequency, nocturia, and bladder pain. Several pathomechanisms have been proposed, including uroepithelial dysfunction, mast cell activation, neurogenic inflammation, autoimmunity, and occult urinary tract infections. BACKGROUND: Hemorrhagic cystitis (HC) is a common complication after hematopoietic allogeneic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) associated with intensity of the conditioning regimen, cyclophosphamide (Cy) therapy, and BK polyomavirus (BKPyV) infection.
METHODS: We analyzed 33 consecutive haploidentical (haplo) HSCT recipients transplanted for hematologic diseases. Eleven patients had a previous transplant. Median follow-up was 11 months. OBJECTIVE: The effect of naftopidil on symptoms of tranilast-induced interstitial cystitis (IC) was examined in rats.
METHODS: Thirty-two female rats were divided into four groups (control, naftopidil, tranilast, and combination groups). Rats in the control group were fed a standard diet, while rats in the naftopidil, tranilast, and combination groups were fed diets containing naftopidil, tranilast, or naftopidil + tranilast, respectively. Fungus ball and fungal emphysematous cystitis are two rare complications of fungal urinary tract infection. Eosinophilic cystitis (EC) is a rare disease. It is a transmural inflammation of the bladder, predominantly with eosinophils. High index of suspicion is needed for timely intervention.
