OBJECTIVES: Wolbachia, an endosymbiont of filarial nematode, is considered a promising target for therapy against lymphatic filariasis. Transcription elongation factor GreA is an essential factor that mediates transcriptional transition from abortive initiation to productive elongation by stimulating the escape of RNA polymerase (RNAP) from native prokaryotic promoters. Upon screening of 6257 essential bacterial genes, 57 were suggested as potential future drug targets, and GreA is among these. The current study emphasized the characterization of Wol GreA with its domains.

The expansion of CAG/CTG repeats is responsible for many diseases, including Huntington's disease (HD) and myotonic dystrophy 1. CAG/CTG expansions are unstable in selective somatic tissues, which accelerates disease progression. The mechanisms underlying repeat instability are complex, and it remains unclear whether chromatin structure and/or transcription contribute to somatic CAG/CTG instability in vivo. Laboratory results of 67 cases of legionnaires' disease caused by Legionella pneumophila serogroup (Sg) 1 spanning a 6-year period were analysed by both phenotypic and genotypic methods. The methods compared were urinary antigen enzyme immunoassay (EIA), an immunofluorescent antibody (IFA) test, direct fluorescent antibody (DFA), culture and a 5S rRNA PCR with Southern blotting confirmation.
