White Coats Under Fire: Understanding the Epidemic of Violence Against Doctors.

The doctor-patient relationship, once grounded in trust and mutual respect, is increasingly marred by incidents of violence against healthcare providers. This alarming trend not only threatens the safety of doctors but also undermines the integrity of medical care. This article delves into the multifaceted reasons behind such violence, exploring emotional, financial, societal, and systemic factors that contribute to this disturbing phenomenon. Drawing from extensive surveys and real-world incidents, we shed light on the pressures and misunderstandings that fuel hostility towards medical profes

Umbilical cord cleansing with chlorhexidine in neonates: a systematic review.

We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to evaluate the efficacy of chlorhexidine application to the umbilical cord in neonates. We searched MEDLINE and other electronic databases, and included all RCTs that evaluated the effect of single or multiple chlorhexidine cord applications on the neonatal mortality rate (NMR) and/or the incidence of systemic sepsis and omphalitis. A total of six RCTs-four community-based cluster RCTs and two hospital-based trials-were included in the review. Of the four cluster RCTs, three were conducted in South Asia

Healthcare Seeking and Access to Care for Pneumonia, Sepsis, Meningitis, and Malaria in Rural Gambia.

Children with acute infectious diseases may not present to health facilities, particularly in low-income countries. We investigated healthcare seeking using a cross-sectional community survey, health facility-based exit interviews, and interviews with customers of private pharmacies in 2014 in Upper River Region (URR) The Gambia, within the Basse Health & Demographic Surveillance System. We estimated access to care using surveillance data from 2008 to 2017 calculating disease incidence versus distance to the nearest health facility. In the facility-based survey, children and adult patients sou

A Case Study of Comprehensive Postoperative Management for Elderly Total Hip Arthroplasty Patients Based on Peplau's Interpersonal Relationship Theory.

With a growing population of elderly patients undergoing hip arthroplasty, traditional nursing care often faces challenges dus to fragmented services and inadequate continuity. Based on Peplau's interpersonal relationship theory, we explored a comprehensive hospital-home-community management model for an 80-year-old female patient following total hip arthroplasty. This nursing model was structured into four sequential phases (orientation, identification, exploitation, and resolution) and incorporated a structured multidisciplinary team, a stepwise health education system, discharge preparation

The development, implementation and evaluation of a cross organisational clinical guideline for the management and prevention of wound infection.

BACKGROUND: The Tissue Viability services in acute and primary care in Leeds had concerns about the increasing inappropriate use of topical antiseptic dressings for wound management and were aware that the use was disproportionate to the evidence supporting their prescribing. A scoping exercise of the use of topical antiseptics and systemic antibiotic usage in Leeds led to the identification of heterogeneous prescribing of systemic antibiotics and an almost £500,000 spend on topical antiseptics across Leeds community. METHODS: The project involved the following stages. 1- Local scoping of top

Detection of Burkholderia pseudomallei DNA in patients with septicemic melioidosis.

Septicemic melioidosis is the most severe form of melioidosis, which is caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei. It is endemic in Southeast Asia and is the leading cause of death from community-acquired septicemia in northeast Thailand. A major factor that contributes to the high mortality is the delay in isolation and identification of the causative organism. More than half of the patients die within the first 2 days after hospital admission, before bacterial cultures become positive. The present study was undertaken to develop a rapid diagnostic method for identification of this organism. A nest
